Look I know it's expensive, but it does look Awesome. I'm thinking of buying it. One day. Not necessarily today. I would be more inclined to buy it if it is or can be a good mech to play, rather than a status symbol for collectors sort of like the Bentley Continentals in our real garages, right? Anybody?

I have never bought or played an Awesome variant. I never like toting more than 2 PPC's max and I am a believer that real LRM boats should have jump jets ie the cats. Plus I don't like piloting assault class mechs in general, but I'm willing to give assaults a try with Pretty Baby since we all know that awesomes are really heavy mechs in assault class anyway. I hate piloting lights too so I bought cicadas to get my light game on as it's a glorified light in medium class. Maybe I'm just in the closet. I don't know, but I digress.

Back to topic, can the PB awesome be a competitive mech? I have some good loadout ideas, but I would like feedback before dropping $25 real dollars to experiment with some virtual hardware.

Much thanks community.

Competitive? Not even close in the 8v8 queue.

Can it wreck PUGs and make decent money in the hands of a good pilot? Yes.

Should it be your first Assault? Probably not.

No.

It's one of the worst mechs in the game.

Wouldn't use it in 8v8- but I enjoy it in Pub games.

I usually like to swim against the grain and tend to like mechs others decry (like YLW, which I still can rock 500-700 damage and 5 kills in a match, if I PUG with an even SEMI competent team) and I love love love love love my Ilya and Flame (i has a Grand Dragon!!!!)

But.... Pretty Baby is a tough nut. I am sure with enough experimentation, someone will come up with a "premium" build for her, but right now, dues to extremely odd hard points, it seems all the mods are more compromises and for fun. Meaning, not really worth the huge cost in most cases, unless you just love the chassis itself, or are a PokemonWarrior.

I got mine kitted up to run as a THUG (with gimped weapon locations) and like the other guys say... it is fun to PUG with, but I would not try it in 8 man if I wanted to actually contribute and be competitive.

Am considering tossing together a pulse laser and LRM version for giggles.... will hafta report on it if it doesn't get crushed instantly....

Can you be effective in it? Sure.

Would you be more effective in a different mech? Almost certainly.

Under this scenario, is it a good mech? No

Save up C-bills for an astronomically expensive fully tweaked AWS-9M. Play that for a while until you know if YOU can be good with it. I know quite a few people who are phenominal with both the PB and the 9M, but they are the exception, not the rule. Absolutely do not buy it unless you have played the 9M ( a real build, not stock or trial ). Opinions vary...the only relevant one is your own.

i haven't piloted it ever but i have faced a few enemies in them.

surprising to see some people can beat regular awesome with it by virtue of it's speed.
if you can't put the speed of your faster mechs to good use forget it.

players who charge downhill are dead with this chassis. only very good for hit and run players.

there was a guy with a pretty baby, viking something, we couldn't hit him at all.
no assault mechs with no ammount of weapons firing could hit him

9M has better hardpoints, only difference is the 9M has a 385 max engine vs the PBs 400 max. but thats only about 3 kph difference.

Not a competitive mech. In fact, it is the only hero mech that has unique defects (25% lesser deceleration) introduced into it without any unique loadout possibility.

I think the general view is it lacks one or two large energy slots. Just too many small weapons. If it could carry just one more Large Laser it could float between long and short range and be a quasi-assault mech. Two Large Lasers isn't going to compete at long range so you get forced to brawl even when it's not a good idea to do so. Or so it seems.

I don't have one, although I would like to buy one, if it had that additional Large Laser. I just don't want to get into games and have to make the PB work at short range all the time. I like to adapt to the battle, not the other way around. But that's just me. Some folks love brawling and the PB can do that.

Pretty baby kinda sucks. I don't even give it a second glace on the battlefield, unlike the 9M. The Illya is still the best MC only mech.

Dio wasn't an 8 track band.

The PB is quite a bit more maneuverable than the 9M, especially turning speed. The 9M can pack more laser firepower, but the PB can pack more missile firepower. As for whether it's competition worthy, I have no clue. I'm not at that level to judge.

if it switched its RT with its LT so that all the missiles are on one side and all the lasers are on the other side, then it would be a lot better than it is. still not great though.

This thread explains the recent uptick in my k/d. Please keep ignoring PBs on the field. As for the viability of mechs in 8 man drops, that is why you have an Atlas DC.

Hard for the devs to walk the tightrope. Make it too good and people will cry that it's pay 2 win. Make it too weak and nobody will buy. That's probably why it turned out...interesting.

Oh come on.
You think death's knell would have been uber sauce with ECM, or that PRETTY BABY would be too strong with another energy hardpoint in the arm?

This isn't exactly rockets science.

Your cashmechs should at least be comparable to c-bill mechs.

Not to sound cliche as all heck, but there are no good 'mechs. Only good pilots.
