Hello there, I wanted to suggest an option for removal or addition of empty slots for weapon groups in each battlemech in MWO as in the battle one often ends up in an empty slot during weapon group cycling (at least this is my experience, playing the game with a joystick - Microsoft Sidewinder Precision Pro - and using the hat button to cycle through the weapon groups and I could imagine this also happens to mouse users occasionally?). It definitely increases the chances of missed fire opportunities or firing delays as one may double-check if the cycle is/lights on a loaded/weapon slot or an empty slot during the game and in my opinion this disadvantage for weapon group cycling players should be rectified, allowing every player to fully configure the fire control (add or remove weapon group slots in each mech type). Thanks for your consideration and people with the same problem are very welcome to please contribute to this topic and leave their feedback as well.

Well,

No response so far, I still think that one should be able to edit (deleta/add a slot) all of the 6 weapon group slots in order to avoid ending up in an empty/unequipped slot.

Best wishes ...

I think many people have a dedicated button per weapon group, as that is a lot faster than cycling through. If you have enough buttons on your mouse/joystick you should definitely give it a try. If you don't, you should consider saving up for a mouse/joystick that does. You'll never look back after that, trust me.

Im not sure I understand this...

Do you move through your weapon groups so that you only use your left mouse button to fire?

That is horribly ineffecient if you do, and you should start mapping your groups to different buttons, or get a mouse/joystick that can.

I guess being able to remove numbers from the the groups so that the weapon display is less cluttered isn't a bad idea, but it seems more like an OCD kind of thing, rather than actually improving gameplay.

Sorry for going a little OT from your suggestion, but as others have said, consider using a different keybinding for greater control over firing groups.

Looking at pics of the joystick in question (and assuming you're right-handed), it seems to have pretty hard to reach buttons on the stick. You could of course set group 1 to the trigger and 2 to the top left button, but after that it's harder. For me, having three weapon groups is usually enough for any 'mech, and many just use two - and I think the joystick has on/off buttons, right? You could map TAG to that, just turn it on at the beginning of the match and then leave it unless you specifically want to disable it.

It seems a little awkward with that joystick for torso, but it's possible and probably far preferable to the method you're using right now.

Have you looked at playing with joystick + mouse, using mouse for torso and joystick for leg movement? Some people swear by it.

I asked about this right when open beta started. This is how I played the other mechwarrior games, with cycling weapon groups.

Its nice to have your SRMs set it to smaller groups but instead of chain firing them all, you can chain fire groups, Same goes for lasers and such.

It would be another level of managing your firing selection and might make you use less buttons.
