Instead of making it part of the game engine, make it part of the client.

The idea is that the game ends, winner is announced for 3 seconds and then the game engine shuts down dropping back to the client menu where your mechlab etc is. The chat window is open there with everyone who was in the game, they can talk until they join a new game.

Obviously scores etc are also visible here.

Presently, people just leave and there's no post-match interaction between players.
The wait for your mech would also be cut down drastically - presently this wait is WAY too long.

Would be nice...but not really feasible with how the game is set up.

Best case scenario is that each player will have a "quick friend" button next to their name on the after match screen and then players can meet up later in the lobby.

How is it "not feasible with how the game is set up" ?

Server only has to send the scores to the client and the chat servers made a stand-alone process - it's very simple in actual fact.

BF3 does it with everything but the chat already.

i am hesitant about using anything that comes from BF3 or EA in general for that matter.

Better get rid of guns then. They also have so much to do with punkbuster.

BF3 and EA didn't create guns.

i am likely overreacting a bit, but my BF3 experience... well i am not sure if i can describe in words the combination of anger, frustration, and general dissapointment that game caused.

they bought up battlefield 1942 <-(an incredible game) and then butchered it in every way possible (as far as i can tell). i have seen several IPs sacrificed on the EA alter (command and conquer, mass effect, sim city, spore, and countless others), but battlefield suffered horrors far beyond anything i could have possibly imagined.
