Mech on mech is good. Mech on mech with *tanks* too? Sexy time.

No.
Mechs only, please.

I was thinking about this the other day.

Having not only 'mechs running around, but perhaps allowing players to drive non-'mech vehicles... Such as tanks, and maybe even some light aircraft.

Just a fun thought!

No.
It doesn't work in practice.

Living legends tried, and mechs, being what they are, are far inferior to both planes and tanks.

I'm all for combined arms if they add Aerospace, power armor, and infantry in as well. Otherwise there's really no point in adding tanks since their only purpose is to be cheap to build and operate.

maybe as AI support vehicles in certain game types, but not playable.

Although I did just get a rather amusing mental image of a 'pet' system in which you have your own little tanks and helicopters to customise :P

I would like to see it in the background. Like if I look up I can see a firefight in the air.

Tonsama, have you ever looked up in river city, missile contrails and aerospace fighters going on up there all the time

Lemme clarify:

Tanks not as a "Lets take 2 tanks and 6 mechs in an 8 man" arrangement. Tanks in a map where you must hold an objective for X minutes. In that scenario for example, a downed mech player may (given some other mechanic such as inventory based on score, etc) can take a turret or tank to help defend. Limited range, limited use - but gives a much longer fight and can bring different dynamics to the game.

Giving someone something other than pure spectator mode will be nice down the road when maps are much larger and objectives are more complex. Oh, and mobile repair bases like in MW4 if we really want to have long fights.

I think you mean superior (better then) not inferior (worse then).
and i agree, its not needed.

Meh, another dynamic could be fun later on down the road. Turrets, tanks, dropships -- to make this an MMO, it needs more than just pure pvp pew pew.

Yes, AI trucks for the Convoy Missions (Discussed in a number of new mission threads); possibly carrying Coolant (Discussed in its own thread) or ammo.

Bringing up MechAssault 2 was the worst possible way to suggest this. Also, balancing would be a nightmare... Although I do miss playing as a tank with jump jets and trying to DFA mechs (ohhh MechWarrior 2: Mercs mods.... how I miss them).

The game wasn't bad (looks damn good on the 360 after all these years) but the hacking part? Yeah...ick.

Ballancing wouldn't be hard -- not like you can select a tank as your main. It's suplementary - after you get nuked and/or in a very specific trigger. Dual PPC, light armor, plinker.

Yes I totally want an alacorn tripple gaussing me, or a demolisher with 2 ac 20's and way more armor and survivability than a catapult destroying my mech

Unless its one of the lighter vehicles in battletech, most tanks are absolutely devastating in combat...

And when it is a lighter one.. OH HELLO 200 KPH hovercraft that's REALLY FING SMALL

People have this weird idea that tanks are second-rate units in the source material.

Honestly (and this is a tongue-in-cheek suggestion), I would really like to have them as "options" http://gradius.wikia...ki/Option_Types - little AI minions that flit around (and occasionally shoot you in the back, prompting you to yell at them and blame them for your losses). But then I liked playing as the Necromancer in Diablo 2, and tried mightily to like the WItch Doctor in Diablo 3 (did they ever make the minions better for endgame play?)

Yes I've seen the aerospace fighters but I don't recall seeing a firefight up there.

Hmmmm...howabout when you reach a certain requisition amount from holding a cap, you get a small tank set dropshipped in? AI controlled to keep it fair -- just an extra boost to firepower? I dunno...lots of stuff can be done

Yep.. News flash all, battletech tanks are devastating nightmares that only want to crush the ever living sht out of your mech.. They live and feed off the tears of fallen battlemechs that they collect after making them into twisted metal hamburger with there treads
