Ok guys.. now i have to choose between having good fullscreen performance (35-40 FPS) but an high chance to freeze (CTD every 4-5 matches) or surrender and play in windowed mode with 10-15 FPS with LESS crashes.

- In fullscreen wIth better performance, i can aim way better and thus serve my team better. but if i crash in the middle of a good match, maybe the battle will be lost.

- In windowed mode, performance is horrible (10-15 FPS) and it's really frustrating shooting anything that moves faster than 80kph, brawling gets frustrating, no chance to roll with a fast medium/light mech, hard time piloting a splatcat. On the other hand, i'll not crash so i can be sure to be part in a hot balanced battle without letting my team down.

You choose!

(but i would like to be able to play with decent performance in fullscreen without the chance to freeze... so... maybe PGI should work in fixing the engine rather than adding that really useful startup animation...)

IMHO piranha did a nice job until now, at least for me.

- mechlab save bug fixed
- no yellowscreen, no blackscreen in over 200 matches
- no overheatoverlay bug
- netcode got a nice fix and will be better with state rewinding
- 1 CTD in 200 matches
- better FPS than OB-start had

I don´t know where your problems are coming from but it can´t be the game somehow if it works that good for me ?

I voted, but I would like an option "Play fullscreen with awesome performance and no crashes or graphical issues at all since the 2/5 patch." That's the one I'd pick, as I'd prefer it and it is an available option for me right now. Your graphics drivers up to date?

The only crash I've had recently was cleared up with a quick reinstall. It kept crashing on me after my first or second game after I would first turn on my rig. Dunno what it was all about, but I haven't had a yellow, rainbow, no hud or black screens in over 2 patches. If you're running in windows mode still, stop it. FPS = the ability to see and aim. I know not everyone has a really beefy machine, I push 90fps maxed out now since last patch (v-sync off), and with better frames your game play overall will increase.
Only thing I'm still worried about is the 1.5 million killabites it takes in my RAM while I'm in game.

Not to state the obvious but have you

1. Updated graphics drivers
2. reinstalled the entire client
3. cleared your shader cache

The last patch made my own game very very stable. Not devaluing your experience, just putting out some simple fixes.

OP, is this some kind of complaint thread about the technical issues you are having? Please add option "Am not experiencing CTD issues" to the poll.

maybe there are some lang barriers. "What you would choose if you were in my situation" would be the real point. not if im complaining on about what or whatnot.

Anyway... yes, all is up to date, Win7 Pro 64, i do a full reinstall after every cryengine patch improvement, latest nvidia drivers on this GX 650Ti, every other game runs fine. i have the same issue on my home rig with an AMD HD 6970 and latest catalysts. but with that rig, full window performance is still good.

This what i'm talking about is my office rig. E6700@3.6GhZ, 6Gb of DDR2 800, GTX 650Ti stock clocks, ASUS P5Q board, poor performance in fullwindow, good performance in fullscreen but with occasional CTDs.

I'm a IT tech... assembling server racks with SAS storage and LAN cabling, VLAN management is what i live for.
I can also sell hardware and occasionally build workstations and high performance gaming rigs, but actually i have no spare parts for a decent office gaming rig. So i'd say it's not an hardware/driver or OS fault (since i ran a lot of infamous shooters even based on crytek engine 1 and 2 without issues).

It could even be that crappy realtek onboard audio where realtek drivers occasionally have issues with games... but again, no issues in other games so far.

In the end, i was thinking about to keep fullscreen for performance and if i CTD, happens and GL.

thanks for your answers.

EDIT:

oh and about thermal... the card is pretty cold, 42°C max in full load, stock clocks, CPU 54°C full load, stable overclock (FSB400 x 9, 3600MhZ at 1.2875 Vcore)

I have a HD4980, I3 standard clock, WIn7-64 and am totally stable. I´d suggest changing some settings in the catalyst control center if you haven´t tried already.

It´s strange the game is bugging on you with 2 different rigs but I can assure you the game itself is more stable than ever.

Already had the issue with realtek drivers you mentioned. playing with an usb soundcard since. realtek NIC drivers can be a pain, also.

Agreed to all but the last question.

Seriously getting asked that at any given graphical issue is tiresome 1st level support ********.
Other than adding and optimizing when new card generations or direct X version increases come out graphics drivers change VERY little. Most of the time they just add optimizations or fixes for particular games and thus you should ONLY update graphics cards dirvers, when the update notes state specificaly that there were optimizations made for a game you own and have problems with.

In any other case you just never change a running system without proper reason.

I would be looking for the source of the CTD if it were me

I know a great many players who play with only a minor chance of CTD so I would suspect that there is something in particular on your machine that MWO is having issues with, the usual tech support type steps would be the ones to go through resulting in possibly re-installing windows and then installing all the latest drivers etc.

IF it's working... yes. However whenever someone comes on and says "I'm getting frequent crashes" and you find out they are running 6 month old drivers, or even just not the latest drivers, updating drivers fixes the crashing issue... updating drivers is always one of the FIRST things you should try when you are getting games crashing... often they put fixes in for general DX compatibility issues and don't list out what games these changes affect

I used to play this game at 7-12 FpS. Crashing is worse. :o

I've only crashed less than 5 times while playing fulllscreen out of 568 matches, but I've never played in windowed mode so I can't say how good or bad windowed mode is.

How about playing in full screen mode and after every third or fourth game you restart the game client. A CTD is much more worse than just to restart it a little bit more often than after a ctd. Its better for your nerves and better for your teammates if you crash less than right now (or nearly never hopefully).

I played the game a few times in window mode (because I forgot to set the video options after a reinstall). Didn't like the much smaller screen area (but I had no issues with the frame rates).

Sorry but this is a pointless poll.

You know... Something strange has been happening to me since last November that I've been reluctant to share. Whenever I start up a match, my computer normally kills the frame-rates (2-5FPS at best) and tears the screen. I can deal with this. But starting around the end of November, the textures suddenly disappeared into bright yellow blobs with text that says 'Hill.extention' and 'L.Laser.extention' whenever I fired my L. Laser. Same with missles; Little spheres would come flying at me saying LRM or SRM or something like that.

Anyone have an explaination for this?

I'd suggest uninstalling, running a decent registry cleaner, uninstalling your graphics drivers, doing the same registry clean, installing the latest graphics drivers, then reinstalling the game.

That's just me.
