MASC is pointless until collisions are turned back on.

not entirely, what if they made it so when MASC is engaged your turning rate is severely hampered? That way it couldn't just be used to run perfect tight circles around an atlas at 180kph, it'd be more like jousting.

you can't even run at full speed without getting your legs damaged, with a speed boost a light would run its legs off. Hopefully they fix that before masc is put in.
I would much rather it be on a bar that decays, if you continue to hold it does leg damage. It could also generate tons of heat. i would prefer that the masc did not run off a random chance. Also once collisions are in it will be difficult to use masc in general.

Garth said that the leg damage made that way is minimal. even if your hurt your legs 2 dozens of times you would not even reach one point of damage.

as for the masc, it will probably work like a sprint of some sort with a JJ-like mechanic.

Does it have to be a seperate button? How about, when you are at full speed, you can hold accelerate to go up to 133% of your normal max speed? Extra heat and internal damage accrue while above 100% of your normal max speed. Or if you prefer jamming, give it a chance to jam for a few seconds when moving over 100% of normal max speed.

Yes, it has to be a separate button for ease of control. Many people keep pushing on accelerate (W) even after they're at full speed just simply out of habit from other FPS games. To have MASC engage in that scenario when unwanted would be problematic. Tying it to a separate button is perfectly fine.

Well it should be good for short bursts and anything else is dangerous. As previously suggested have it use a bar like the jump jets, but after using up the bar the 'Mech starts taking light damage to the legs. Have the bar be consumed quickly, only 2-4 seconds worth, and have a very slow recharge rate, full recharge takes about 20-30 seconds. Add in an increasing chance of failure, where the actuators freeze up for the duration of a power-down and power-up cycle. After that cycle the 'Mech can move again as if it had been legged, but it keeps both legs in the current damage state they are in.
