Hey all. This is a PUG build I've had a lot of fun with in a mech I was pretty set on not enjoying. It's not exactly original by even battletech standards, and appears every once in awhile in threads. A dual AC/10 build is more robust than most specialized dakkaphracts like the quad AC/5, dual AC/5+UAC5, and quad AC/2. A lot of newer players feel they must fill those hardpoints in the arms and throw the most damage possible, but I take my role as a PUG fire support more adaptive. After assaults take too much damage it's often necessary for you to engage in second-line brawling. This mech may not deal as much damage as dakkaphracts, but it can certainly roll with the punches in ways XL builds cannot.

Here's the build. It packs the max standard engine possible, six tons of AC/10 ammo, and a solid zombie with its HSRM (1 ton) and dual CT Mlas. The 4X is part of an elite club of zombie mechs. Only the CTF-4X and AWS-9M that have both Center Torso and Head mounted fallback weapons. On paper, this is one of the few perks to the mech when compared to, say, an Ilya. I figured why not use it?

[NSFW] Video of the playstyle here. Warning: Second clip contains the word bullspit, it's shouted. [NSFW]

For a mech I deemed too slow and inferior to the Ilya, I'm quite surprised at how much I enjoyed the thing.

That's not a bad build! I started with something like this on my 'phracts, but then moved to something like this:

And here's a slightly more heat abusive, yet provacative build:

I run a tag on my version with a stock engine ams and a streak 2. Works great at helping out an assault fighting against an ecm atlas. You can also fire all day, I don't even worry about optimum range half the time because you have so much ammo.

I was looking for a nice build on the 4x for when i buy it, and this may well be it.
Playstyle is very reminiscent of the Cent but with more armor and longer range, so shouldn't take much adapting for me either

Just the other day I reworked my 4X to run 2 AC/10s and a LL. Just downgrade to a std 240 engine, its nice if you're OCD as the range of all of these weapons is exactly 450m :P

My 4x has been mothballed for a while. This build looks good. Perhaps it's time to get my 4x to elite.

I had a 4x. Couldnt figure out how to outfit it properly. Tried everything. Quad AC4s, Quad AC5s, dual Gaus, dual AC10s. Sad fact of the chasis is, that unless you are making use of the 4 balistic hardpoints, there is no point in getting a 4x. it is slower and has bad hard point allocation (unless you want to zombie, which quite frankly doenst last long anyways.)

If you are planning dual ac10s, go with an Ilya. I understand its an MC expense, but figure its the cost of playing WoW or another MMO for a month. And you are providing funds to PGI for this awesome game.

In my Ilya I run 2xAC10 and 2xLL. It rips face. (Of course when my buddies and I all decide to run our Ilyas together, its 4x(4xUAC5 + 3xML). B) Nothing says I love you quite like 12 UAC5s "kissing you" from 500m. :P

The 4x will be great when they introduce the UAC2s. Then this mech will own.

The twin AC10s with rinky dink backup weapons was my go-to setup for the 4X, and sometimes the 3D Phracts. I love the Hammer Hands build. You just hang out with your other slow, fat buddies, and aim at any part of any mech that doen't have any armor, even if it's an arm on a light or a leg on an assault. AC10s are the OCD choice for causing those oh-so-satisfying ammo explosions, matching ammo HP perfectly. And who here DOESN'T put ammo in their legs? I get very concerned when I see one of my legs lose its outline. Chainfired at stripped parts, you get twice the chance for crits, assuming you hit the same hitbox over and over. It's a satisfying build to play, played right. Oh, and twin LBX or AC10 and two AC2 are somewhat interesting, I guess would be the word. Or AC10 LBX.

I probably should have titled it the Hammerhands since it's really the lore based build, but I named it the Garrulous because even after you've ripped off its arms it just doesn't shut up. :)

Been running 2 AC10's and a ERLL in my 4x for a while. Not the most potent loadout, but it is really fun. Good sounds, and grabs attention quick from your foes. AC10 is a tad rough to target the fast movers, but the LL is enough to make them pay attention. My loadout isnt really finished, the 4x was my first mech. I have an XL engine, which I want to remove. The speed is nice, but phracts are just too easy to core out with tiny low slung arm hit box and the tendancy in game to not bother with leg shots right now.

its a good support fire mech. Not too great at sniping or brawling, but outstanding for hanging with your fat buddies and helping to pick off the smaller mechs flanking them so they can focus on the other teams big bads. 2 AC10's is usually enough to say "hey look at me!" to those hunchies pecking at your fatlas pal.

Man, that could've been good. I just sold my 4X because I hated it so much.

$7.00 gets you 4 more mech bays. Bays are one of the cheapest things in the game. If you like the game at all, it's the one thing you should spend some bucks on.

I gave this build a try, and it's not bad. Good enough for me to get my 4X to elite on at least.
