I would REALLY like to be able to custom-color my hero mechs.

If they are meant to be distinguished on the battlefield by their unique camo pattern, I can understand if they should be left that way... Afterall, Hero mechs (not founders mechs) do have unique hard point options. It could make sense to require them to be visually distinguished in some way.

BUT I would really like to, at least, be able to custom color the unique camo patterns on my hero mechs. Being able to custom color the mech, would not have to detract from (the arguably necessary) unique camo pattern. Presently my favorite mech is my Ilya Muromets, which (no offense to the devs) has a horrible color scheme that bothers me to no end, every single day.

I presently own at least SIX different Hero/Founders mechs, and I am completely disabled from putting custom camo or coloring on any of them (beyond the almost invisible highlight lines on the Founders mechs). Understanding that i have paid HUNDREDS of dollars to have these mechs, I think there's something at least slightly wrong with disabling me from making my mech look how I wish for it to look, when players who pay no money for their mechs are able to customize the look for their mech to their heart's delight. Call me crazy, but customization options are near the top of my list for reasons that I choose to play the particular games that I play. Yes, its a "war" game... but... its a game. I like to have fun by expressing my own creativity, not just shooting things.

Is anyone with me on this? I love this game and I think that the devs are doing a great job... I'd just love to know that whenever I pay some of my hard-earned money that its going to be fully rewarded, rather than locking me into a dynamic that is not to my taste. I buy hero mechs for the hardpoint options, not for the custom skin. I want to paint my mechs how I want them to look, especially if I've paid real money for them.

I agree with this completely. PLEASE add the ability to do SOME kind of customization to hero and founders. We paid real cash for those mechs, and sure some bought for the skin, but most likely bought for the bonus, and unique hardpoints. The skin is added bonus. But we want to be UNIQUE not "one of a dozen heros" on the field.

Let us at least recolor them. Honestly I feel we should be able to change the skin too, simply allow the hero skin as a free skin on that mech only. Forcing us to stick with the stock skin on hero and founder mechs is frustrating.

I've seen others say the devs have openly stated we will not be able to change this and the intent is not to change it but:
A) Please post a link to said post, I've never been able to find it
In several posts and screenshots by the devs they talk about custom colors and such on the hero mechs (one example is Ilya Muromets, where it was posted with a different scheme same skin). Come on what is this just them teasing us? They announce the new mech and say how great it looks with custom colors, oh by the way you can't do that only we can...

Anyway, just asking for offiicial clarification on this.

If it's decided officially we will NEVER be able to change this, fine, but tell us explicitly in some official capacity so that I can quit worrying about it and move on.

I totally agree with the above. Why should a founder mech not be able to use other colors etc... Why should a special mech be limited while it is just colors, decals etc.

I would like this because it would allow my Fang and Flame to show off my personal heroic color scheme. I love the mechs, the dragons are cool but making it my colors would be great for me!

Not a Founder, but disallowing their mechs to customized is pretty lame.

to maintain the uniqueness of foudners/hero mechs the camo should probably stay locked, buy allowing decals and colouring seems very reasonable.

Founders mechs themselves it would be nice to at the very least paint the primary channel.

if PGI ever finds the time, adding a third channel (something that suits "founders") like a 3025 iconic camo ie, would be cool.

Due to the custom models, it would be a lot of extra work to have to tune all future patterns to the founders mechs. They could easily enable colors and decals though.

I currently own 2 Hero Mechs. But. I rarely use them because I prefer to utilize my own unique brand of visual customizing (unless I am on a money grab to buy a new colour for another Mech). For the same reason I do not want to purchase others because I am not a fan of their exterior artwork (No offence PGI artist guy, they are great just not my thing). I know... vain.

One of the great aspects of the game, for me and for IGP / PGI, is the ability to make my Mech look like my own creation. These Mechs are money in your bank if I can alter them and makes the game more fun for me.

Please let me change the art.

I'm okay with not being able to edit my founder's mechs. They look pretty cool as they are. I mean, I can change the yellow bits to a different color right now but few other colors look decent with that green.

BUT overall, I think letting people customize their hero mechs all they want would probably be the best choice simply because people like freedom with personal customization. Your mechs are a representation of you on the battlefield, it's not as fun if you look the same as everyone else with that same mech.

The least they could do is let us put on and change the decals for our hero mechs in addition to swapping out the colors, which we should be able to do later this month.

That said, I'd like to point out that artists put a lot of effort into the hero mechs' colors and patterns and I think people lose sight of that. Showing a little appreciation for their efforts is always welcome, I'd imagine.

Surely we ought to be able to modify the colors of the founder mechs. Another thing that bugs me is the fact that there's no possibility to rename the mechs. Why so?

The more time goes on, the more important founder/hero paintjobs become. As has been mentioned, everyone wants to be their own special snowflake and right now everyone looks the same. I've always said that this was a low priority, but the more camo patterns they release the more money they are loosing by not selling them to founder/hero pilots.

Change patterns on Founder/Hero 'Mechs? No. The pattern should be locked for eternity.

Change colors on Founder/Hero 'Mechs? Yes. This would allow the special snowflakes to exercise their specialness.

Add decals to Founder/Hero 'Mechs when they become available? Yes.

Will I be changing my Founder/Hero 'Mechs on my two Founder accounts? Patterns/Colors no. Decals will be added as they are earned though.

They're adding the ability to change Hero mech colors (and patterns? Unsure there) tomorrow.
