I have seen in some of the books talking about a rear firing arc, I could be wrong but that would add a new element. I would have to be directly at your 6 and no where else and could only be certain weapon hard points, like a laser turrent mounted on the top of a torso or somthing so you have some rear guard just not alot. What you guys think????

Rear weapons were included in the tabletop where you did not need to figure out how to aim the damn thing. For MWO, those designs have shifted the rear-firing weapons into regular ol' front firing weapons.

For rear firing weapons you would need some sort of display of what's happening behind you. In the BT universe this is accomplished via a 360° view compressed to a 180° display. I doubt that we will see that anytime soon in any MW game to come. Looks like we will have to live without rear mounted weapons and flip arms.

I don't think MWO will have that compressed 360° display, and it would certainly be difficult to get used to in addition to the difficulty in programming it.

As seen in the screenshots, there is a bar at the top of the screen that compresses at least 180 degrees into a reletivly small arc. Aiming backwards would be just about impossible, though.

one incarnation, the pod-based tesla battletech/BT firestorm, featured rear firing arcs for certain mechs using the joystick hat switch. While in rear view, the mechs in question had a targeting reticle and only those weapons capable of rear-fire would be triggered when fired from that position. Some mechs with rear-fire action (blackhawk in particular) were torso-locked, forcing whole-chassis rotation to aim the rear weapon. Typically you'd see harassing drive-bys from a blackhawk, continuing to shoot a pair of lasers in rear arc at those in pursuit.

if they included rear weapons there would invariably be that one guy (me) who loads a bunch of laser front and back, walks into a group a of mechs and starts spinning around.

well that is why it is one or the other you cant fire both at the same time and it is not rear facing and front facing weapons, it is your normal weapons you mount that flip backward

You aren't the only one =3
I do love oddball designs just to 'mess' with enemy minds and expectations.

They were easy enough to aim in mpbt3025 - you just looked at your rear camera view and aimed and fired the same way you would with front weapons. I killed a couple javelins that way with an atlas.

If there are rear mounts, it could be accomplished ( though without good results) by watching the radar and firing rear mounted weapons when something gets in your six. You wouldn't need to aim. It might just buy you some time to turn and face your new opponent. Though if you don't kill off the one in front...
I used to put either medium lasers or streak arms in my custom mechs. It would make people think twice about dancing around behind you. A lucky arm-2 to the head would do wonders for a deterrent.
I would also make sure the mech had jump jets so I could repay the favor...

I made a 'mech in TT once that basically rear-mounted most of its weapons, flippable arms, and heavy rear armor just to troll my opponents' Light mechs.

Hilarity ensues, trust me. B)

i dont think it would be all that difficult as you all put it. set it up as pressing the shift key, it could change you view with rear view than point and shoot. not that hard. it would help when a dule ac/20 cat sneeks up behind you and one shots you(or danm neerb it). would it work maybe maybe not
