Just another byline to send this topic into forum-induced epilepsy: What if they used virtual servers and had both a development and live server stack, then flipped the switch over to the updated servers when they were ready. They could stage the updated servers, down the live ones, and flip over the networking to the staged servers in less than five minutes. Just IMO, as always. That would shrink downtime to "Who's cares?" levels.

Well, they could start at 7 or 8, then the servers would be back up for prime time EU. Ok, prime time Afghanistan would be messed up with that, but i guess there are more customers in Europe. But we have too little info, but PGI should have statistics were the most customers come from and then perhaps try to not bring the servers down during times were many of these customers play. Prime time Vanuatu could be a better time for patching/maintenance, too, but could be related with burning the midnight oil. Or you just start work a little late on that day and everything's fine.

And despite regular office ours: if you sell a product worldwide you have to consider your customers worldwide and this could mean different working times then in an usual office.

Oh I agree. Over time I see it being a reasonable request to have each server location brought down around 2 am local-ish time, give or take an hour. People seem to forget, there will be international servers eventually, the problem of who's prime time in the world to kill is only a temporary one, soon to die a well deserved death.

Until then people should be more reasonable, much like you are.

I would venture a guess that the cost of a physical server that could handle running MWO vs one that could handle running two VMs that are running MWO might make less sense in reality than on paper...just a guess though. Otherwise, I would be completely on board with that idea.

So, could we please get a response about whether our premium time is being counted down while we are unable to play?

Maybe another User can answer this question.

I believe they have already stated that premium time does NOT count down during server maintenance in a post buried deep in the forums. I could, of course, be mistaken.

You know what would be cool, too? An ingame shop and advertisement that does not require a server shutdown if you wanna change stuff. During my 5 years in ecommerce it was no problem changing prices on the fly, but here they need to bring the servers down everytime they want to promote a sale...
