i think everyone under plays the sheer size of the Catapult's arms. I mean, you could fit a pair of Light mechs in side of the arms. They can litterally be aimed at individually and destroyed from ANY angle. teh arms so so large that at first the catapult looks larger than the 20ton heavier Stalker beacause of those huge arms. also, these arms dont, in any way, protect the torsos. enemies litterally have their pick of the litter when it comes to shooting parts on the ctapult. even the cockpit is easy pickings, like a new born puppy in a box.
i do not own the A1 beacause 100% of its wepons are in the arms. these already beyond vulerable arms needed the baydoor damage bonus reduction, and you throw that away when you run around with them open. no changes needed there.

As an occasional Flakcat (Skillcat, Flakcat, Splatcat, whateva!) pilot, if I see one on the field I know a few things immediately
  • The pilot likely won't shoot until he's humping my leg - stay at least 150m away
  • Aim for the legs, they always seem to have squishy legs with lots of ammo - especially if they bothered to bring JJ
  • If I am in a Flakcat, I unload on their arms. Single salvo removes one.
  • They have heat issues, circle a lot get them to overheat then punch 'em in the kidney with a PPC or AC/20

almost.

this is the only case where i think you are wrong. i run 14 or 15 (i think) double heatsinks on my catapult c4. effective heat reduction of 26 (ish). i rarely overheat even when i am fighting in the crater on caustic.

my catapult A1, which i rarely use and will probably sold for space once i get fully trained, does have a slightly downsized engine (less than the 315 max) so i could fit artemis. i have to say i generally do not like the A1 as much because it is much less versatile. having the 6x SRM6+artemis takes up too much weight so i was forced to cut back on heatsinks, jump jets, and reduce the engine. even using chainfire it burns a lot of ammo when fighting light mechs. i could switch to SRM4 but then it would be about the same as my C4 except without the medium lasers.

Yes - I hadn't considered a C4 as a Flak/Skill/Splat-cat. Two fewer SRM6 launches makes heat management much more... er, manageable. I also prefer the C4 and C1 to the A1.

in closed beta there was repair and rearm to limit the number on the field. now any moron can run one and leg hump their way to a single kill.

With the Artemis it's like having a 270 meter ac90.

End of the day I can only half understand the fuss, if you stay out of it's range and don't try to stare it to death from 50 meters you can usually put up a really good fight against one.

Pound its ears from 271+ meters and you win every time. Up close you will have a battle, but I've fought many good pilots that know to sacrifice an arm then smash my head or ears while it's cycling.

Really this build is a straight one range, either slow or low ammo, mostly alpha shot, stomper with huge hitbox targets. Not hard to defeat if you don't use poor tactics.

Since the latest changes the Cata splat is kind of shat, they have nerfed the heck out of it.

There appears to be only one viable Cata now and that is the K2, missiles are not flavour.
