Who would buy mechs that you are not allowed to modify? What is the point of grinding for C-bills if you can´t uppgrade your mech? MWO would lose focus. I think it is a bad idea.

if you buy a mech they could just add the stock variant next to all the trial mechs and you could drop with that. or add another tab so you'd have trial mechs, stock mechs, and you own mechs. all your custom mechs would have nothing to do with stock.

Well, you can afford more mechs and you would always have cash for repairs handy should RnR return.

Besides, there is no point in customizing mechs anymore once they are completely min maxed, so you'd be stuck with the same problem as with the stock designs.

I think you need to have it spelled out Mackenstein, nobody wants to dismiss regular Assault/Conquest/Custom mech game modes.
Nobody here is talking about taking it away from the game.
You select the "classic mode", your custom HBK 4P reverts to the trial version for that particular match. There.

Back to topic, I think this could work, but personally I would like to see such a mode with mech HP decreased to stock values (or close to stock values) and true dual heatsinks to go with it. Maybe as toggle-able mutators to go with it

They wouldn't have to be free, you still need to buy mechs outside of the trial mechs that are available.

Though it would give people who only have a trial mech a fair chance at grinding C-Bills. That way we could get more players to stay, they can always afford a custom mech after sufficient battles and participate in custom matches.

a smart way to implement this would be for the game to read your inventory and see if you had the gear to revert a Mech of whatever variant to "stock" and if so, allow you to drop or not drop with the Mech selected in your Mechbay. If you're short a MG or whatever, you've got to buy one and at least keep it in your inventory. That way players could keep their custom rigs ready to go and not have to worry about "building" a Mech back to stock which given the armor differences etc, could be pretty cumbersome. They could also "ignore" the endo, XL, FF people add or remove as they go, so long as the materials are in inventory.

There has been a lot of talk and concerns about splitting the MWO community by adding servers in Europe for example. I think that the addition of a parallel "stock variant mode" would have that effect too. It would be bad for MWO. It would split MWO in two parts.

Well, there have been people around who suggested a feature where you could save a config of a mech. So that could potentially work.

Look I'll be honest, I probably wouldn't play this mode, but I don't see it splintering the community to the point of no return if it's offered as an option and not a required mode. Don't force people at this point, to give up something they've grown to expect and it's all good imo. Play stock all ya want imo. It's really no different than some people selecting to play assault and others conquest only etc.

Which is why it shouldnt be optional. Lets just get rid of customization and force everyone to play a random stock mech.

This has been brought up multiple times.

I've wanted it since before day one.

Obviously certain 'Mechs will be gravitated to (HBK-4P) but it would be an interesting cute little "for fun" game mode.

Why are people even complaining about a stock only mode?
It's not like you are going to be forced to participate.

Are there actually people *complaining* about its potential existence?

The poll asked me if I was interested, I answered "No" and provided reasons for which I would hate such a mode to explain my answer.

I never said I was opposed to that mode being available for people who want them, and though I haven't read the entire thread, I doubt people have been going out of their way to say they're opposed to that mode even being available at all.

A good idea, but needs more otherwise it will be HER-2M, JR7-F, HBK-4P, GRF-1N, OTL-4F, WVR-6K, WHM-6D, AWS-8Q, BNC-3S (or the nearest equivalents) and nothing else.

I would buy select stock mechs like the (Madcat d or prime) or maybe a stock (orion). Why? becouse i just like there looks and would love to pilot one.Overall a trial or stock mode would be a ideal training groung for new players no pressure learn at your own pace longer battles to learn more skills and talent.Plus i know everyone else has the same chance to win.We could be doing a 1v1-12v12 drop if the matchmaker would let you or even a FFA mode winner take all Cbills.Right now its just a Slaughter for many new players and pugs against premades you all know it is true. And maybe this would be the ticket to have new players stay and enjoy the game.I know when i play a trial mech and 90% of all players are playing in them also its a much funner game for me anyways.Plus i like the BT lore and knowlege im piloting a stock BT type mech config. But i do like the option of custom mechs and being on a team also and i would play that mode too so it would just add more fun and content to the game having a stock mode.Plus maybe down the road a stock planitary type warfare model. :)

The same thing will happen in custom games...lots of DDC's, lots of 3L's, lots of splat/ac20/gauss cats, etc. Stock or custom games aside, only the newbs take he mechs that are no good.

I'd love a blind stock mode - you choose your weight class, then randomly get assigned a 'Mech. Choosed medium? You might get a 4J Hunchback or you might get a 2A Cicada or a 9D Centurion.

I often daydream about the community warfare aspect. Like if supply lines are cut and players come to a situation where only stock mechs are available. There is something fun about being forced into a issued mech.

I'm under the impression that lore/plot wise that stock mechs are more common then customized mechs?

Yes, customized mechs are something of a rarity in the setting.
