I think, besides coring someone, my favorite part of this game is the mechlab and putting together something that fits the way i feel like playing at the moment.

I would love to have a stock only mode.

Min maxed mechs are the equivalent of training wheels to me. I get that people really need the mechlab to get by, but it would be fun if MWO also catered to the people who value skill over cheese builds.

Stock variants are mostly awful, but there're some much better than others. So your desired game mode will become something like "8 Hunchbacks 4SP vs. 8 Catapults C1"

If the game balance and heat system was designed to allow for stock mechs to function reasonably well, then yes, I would. But it's not, so you'll never find me in a stock mech again if I can help it.

I might make an exception for a Devestator or similar mech with a heavy load of ballistics.

A stock mode would hopefully open the eyes of the devs to do something about the heat system.
It would also reduce the oversinking that currently happens with customs.

So when I dominate you with one of the handful of useful stock mechs, how long will it take before you run back to the ghetto pub?

If they haven't understood it by now, I am not expecting any miracles.

It would have been better for the balance development of the game if they didn't start with the mech bay avaialble and had everyone in stock mechs at first.

But I can see why this would be a bad idea for other reasons. The Mech Lab is a complex piece of software and needed to be functional to be tested as heavily as it was tested.

I dunno, but I feel that there are several players that understand the balance implications of the design chocies and the current balance better than the Devs. Or the Devs are extremely reluctant to change, even if they know better.

I voted yes, but you need a "Yes, but only if the heat/armour/weapon balance was changed".

Like others have said, stock mechs are broken due to the heat and armour changes, so it would only be fun if the mechanics were changed for that mode which isn't likely.

Also some weapons would need to be made better i.e. MG and Flamer. Some mech loadouts would be totally pointless otherwise.

Using the sub par stock variants when some are easily superior to others sounds fun. Or wait....

Like it is right now, you meant?, non-stock variants where some are easily superior to others?. Trying a game mode where everything doesn't come down to boating would be a breath of fresh air.

I don't see how having the option could hinder the game.

Yes, yes and goshdarnit, YES to a stock mech game mode! I've been proposing this since before Closed Beta, and I'll keep saying it would be a great idea 'til the day I die.

Hell, I'd love not only a stock mech mode, but stock mech _and_ era modes. For example:

Stock Mechs, 3025/Third to Fourth Succession War Era designs only

Stock Mechs, War of 3039

Stock Mechs, Clan Invasion

Stock Mechs, Fall of the Star League

I would love this kind of game mode so very, very much!

Only problem is- certain only certain mechs would get used.

(And who is going to use a stock light? Thinking about the armor..)

Only Stock Mechs +1
This would be great, not such senseless configs like 6xSSRM´s or something like that...

That's true, they would have to find a way around that. Either by giving people random mechs / variants, or by adjusting the armor values at the expense of loyalty to the canon.

If you think medium mechs are unpopular right now, well...

Not to mention the stock light mechs, which can only climb above a 50 kph speed if they're going downhill.

Maybe they should have a random mode. The game mode allows for 2 mechs of each weight class and every pilot who jumps in will randomly get a mech that belongs to any of the classes and of any stock variant.

Then it'll really be a case of how well you can adapt.

You should add a poll option for, "Not really, but I'm more than happy for there to be separate game modes that limit various equipment changes for people who want them"

Those who voted yes, have you ever played a stock mech in this game in the first place? If not seeing a splattapult is the only reason you voted yes, you are making a mistake...

I think that the reason is that people are getting a bit sick and tired of splattapults.
