Do not let yourself be singled out from the heard (about 300m spacing max) A flock of 4 Ravens do not have the armor to survive an 8 man fire team!

I can attest to that on both sides. Now that Lagshield is gone, I've been party of an 8man drop. My 3L, and a Steiner Scout Lance (all heavies and assaults), quickly murdered a flock of 6 3L. I also have tunnel visioned on an opponent and he kited me back to their team, my poor RVN-3L didn't have anything left of it.

On the other end, I was in my 4N 6LL Stalker last night, I hit two 3L's with all 6 lazers on the rear CT, They went down easily after that blasted 3L on our team sole my kills! :P

The point is If you get caught in a 4v1 with out a way to get back to your team, you're doing something very wrong and deserve to die. It does not matter if the 4v1 is Command's, Spiders, or anything.

Raven 3l abuse is rampant and posts like this just show it.

'zat so?

Last night I saw 5 light mechs on my side and the public chat had SQUUUUUUUUUAAAAAAAKKK!!!!!!!! come across it 4 times. It appeared to be a premade Goonsquad with 4 Ravens, but as a PUG we ate them even though they swarmed.

Best advise for the Raven Swarm. If you see THAT many lights on your side you know they have that many on their side unless it is 8-man. At that point STICK TOGETHER! Don't leave your poor heavier mechs to get swarmed and killed. Keep close enough to them you can quickly return, make them the focus. Spread out so they don't base cap and keep your eyes open. After that it is all down to skill and luck.

Did not read more than the first page but here's two things:
1. A group of ravens is known as an "unkindness of ravens"; where they get these designations I have no idea.
2. Saw FoS in '82/'83 with that "Blinded me with science" guy, forget the name.
carry on.

It really is a pain. If you have the alpha strike to do it, and the aim, you can pretty easily pop them one after the other. Lag shield is mostly a thing of the past (mostly.) But that is, naturally, easier said than done.

I've been in situations where I or a teammate survived and won against the birds, but I would say that is the exception and not the rule. For every time I land a dual AC/20 shot or whatever and pop one, there are 20 more shots I miss (and then die.)

One Raven? Easy.
Two Ravens? Medium.
Three Ravens? Hard.
A Lance of Ravens? MechWarrior.

But yeah, only way you could even have a chance of taking out four of them in one skirmish is as a A1 srm Boat and not miss a single volley.

FYI:
  • Group of Ravens = a 'Murder', or 'Rook'.
  • Group of Jenners = a 'Flock'
  • Group of Cicadas = an 'Armageddon'
Also there's no 'method' to beat four of anything 1v4. It means somewhere your seven team-mates are facing four enemies. When I have to fight 2-4 enemies at a time, I make sure it takes them long enough to kill me that by the time they do, their team has 1-2 kills, and mine has 3-4.

So tips to avoid this: Stop wandering off alone; at least stay in pairs, if not three's; understand when a flank is unguarded (See: Every damn twitch event I am the sole person who notices a gaping hole in our line.); be tactical and strategic.

Then I'm dealing with an A1 I make sure I don't face hug it. The spread on SRM-6 over 100M pretty much is wide open and I can take a couple of them before I have issues. Last night I was dealing with an SRM Awesome. I just stayed over 100 meters away from him and ripped him apart.

Just curious if anybody has some sound advice for when I end up facing 4+ Raven mechs?

Yeah, don't get caught facing four of them on your own.

If you're the only one left on your team, focus on one while making yourself difficult to hit. Also, you didn't mention what Mech you drive when this happens.

Find a wall, back up to it and shoot what runs in front of you

That would be pretty imbalanced if there was a reliable way to solo half the enemy team in a brawl. My only suggestions is to make sure you focus on one of them the entire time, swivel around as much as possible, and beeline it toward your nearest teammate.

I prefer:
  • Group of Ravens = a 'Conspiracy'.
  • Group of Jenners = a 'Bruce'
  • Group of Spiders = an 'Eeek!' (okay, a 'Cluster')
  • Group of Commandos = a 'Unit' *giggle*
  • Group of Cicadas = a 'Plague'
  • Group of Centurions = a 'Legion'
  • Group of Hunchbacks = a 'Sanctuary'
  • Group of Catapults = a 'Clowder'
  • Group of SplatCats = a 'Manhattan Clowder'
  • Group of Dragons = a 'Wing' (obsolete: a 'Bowling Alley')
  • Group of Cataphracts = ... oh I've got nothing, maybe a 'Charge'?
  • Group of Ilya Murometses = likewise... nothing directly related... (3 step reference) a 'Sprawl', (4 step reference) a 'Busyness'
  • Group of Awesomes = a 'Stupendous'
  • Group of Stalkers = a 'Facebook'
  • Group of Atlases = a 'Steiner Scout Lance'
Edited for completeness.

If they're working together on coms and you're not? No.

If you're on a team, focus them down one at a time. No sweat.
