Poll: Double Heat Sink upgrade packs, 1 for a 1$, 12 for 10$ (176 member(s) have cast votes)

You expect it

  1. Yes (22 votes [12.57%])

    Percentage of vote: 12.57%

  2. No (123 votes [70.29%])

    Percentage of vote: 70.29%

  3. Kinda (30 votes [17.14%])

    Percentage of vote: 17.14%

Think it's a sound idea?

  1. Yes (16 votes [9.14%])

    Percentage of vote: 9.14%

  2. No (137 votes [78.29%])

    Percentage of vote: 78.29%

  3. Kinda (22 votes [12.57%])

    Percentage of vote: 12.57%

This would be okay if there was a way to get the upgrade item normally. Like being rewarded one upon reaching a certain Rank in a House (first time).

  1. That would be better (62 votes [44.60%])

    Percentage of vote: 44.60%

  2. That would be worse (9 votes [6.47%])

    Percentage of vote: 6.47%

  3. That would change nothing (68 votes [48.92%])

    Percentage of vote: 48.92%

By cannon (300 mm) they're supposed to be rare.

By cannon they're pretty cheap.

So if you take a cheap little item, apply it to a Mech in your hanger and the engine is suddenly upgraded to double heat sinks. The item is destroyed and your Mech now has effectively 20 heatsinks. Forever!

The Atlas D now has the same coolness and is lighter by 8 tons
The Catapult C2 is now 33% cooler and is lighter by 5 tons
The Hunchback 4G is now 65% cooler and is lighter by 3 tons
The Jenner D is now 100% cooler and just as heavy as it ever was. (Yet more laser spam? Sure!)

What say you?

*Edit* looks kinda one sided... Initiating Third Question!

No. Unfair advantage + Inner Sphere double heatsinks don't require less tonnage, just crit space. :D

i say they should be pretty rare at the beginning, and become available more and more while clan invasion is going on... but i didn´t really think about possibilites to implement them in a good way

I'd say this is pretty much a clear indication of Pay to Win, which PGI is trying to avoid. Double Heatsinks have an immediate and (fairly game breaking) effect on a mech and builds possible with it.

This is not a good idea and shouldn't even be contemplated.

Double heat sinks are something that should have a C-bill cost to upgrade, same as anything else. Making them purchaseable with real money only would be very much a pay to win scenario.

What I wouldn't mind seeing is requiring a certain amount of Loyalty points to be able to add them to a 'Mech variant they're not already standard on.

Any upgrades in MechLab have to be paid for, be it weapons or DHS. A large number of people will be upgrading their mechs after one or two games to see how things play.

I believe Double Heat sinks are going to be available, they are rare, so I'd expect expensive. Paying real money to upgrade seems a little far fetched to me I will admit. You'll spend in game currency on them for sure, will you be able to buy in game currency with real money... maybe.

We don't need more pay to win, seriously.

no. no no no. you can't charge money for something that's competitive because then you alienate your consumer base. it will make you quite a bit of money in the short run but this kind of nickel and diming will run quite a few players off regardless if they can afford it.

My personal opinion is cosmetics are a great way to make money, including unique looking weapons that have identical stats as the normal ones you can buy. if people spend tens of thousands of dollars on their 12k hondas to make them unique you can bet your *** people would love to rice their mechs out

what happens when you charge for stuff like this aside from what I mentioned before, is in the competitive community you immediately alienate players between the can's, the can not's, and the "that's too unfair's", where the top levels of competitive must require quite a bit of money to compete. a better model and, I can't believe i'm saying this is if you have tournaments that require a buy in, but these can't be half done either, they would need good coverage, management, and decent rewards whether digital or otherwise, on top of the usual challenges of creating a legitimate competitive base for things like videogames.

I understand though that it's tricky for a company to make money on a free to play game without inadvertently aggrivating their player base.

Good F2P needs to be Pay-2-Pretty, and the biggest advantage paid should ever offer is slightly faster progress, or the ability to hang in the higher tiers with the player underperforming slightly.

I say this as a veteran WoT player.

This is not true, almost every korean MMO that is pay to win remains profitable despite being pay to win.

World of tanks is a pretty good example (i can't recall if it's korean, but it's still pay to win).

What say you?

IS double heat sinks = 1 ton 3 slots 2x heat dissipation

clan doubles = 1 ton 2 slots 2 heat diss

i would not pay a $1 for is doubles.

i would pay $5 per cool new mech skin/paintjob for my favorite chasis

i would consider paying for chasis packs if they include mechs that are my personal favorites, thankfully the awesome and atlas are in game already, but theres more i want, marauder/warhammer/devastator and tons more to name a few.

All premium tanks are inferior to their same tier counterpart. And you mistook "double damage" with "slightly easier to penetrate with", aka training/clanwars ammo.
