I'm not familiar with the whole lore thing that MW is based on, or what equipment is associated with it, but I would pay big for a module that would allow me to adjust a laser on the fly

For example a variable laser and module to go along with it to control ideal range and pulse on the fly. The obvious benefit being increased DMG and more efficient heat if you've adjusted accordingly. The pulse duration thing would be handy depending on the type of mech you're firing at... Long pulse for large slow mechs and fast pulse for lights

What you describe exists in BattleTech as "Variable Speed Pulse Lasers".
Small VSPL
Medium VSPL
Large VSPL

"A variation of the pulse laser concept, the variable speed pulse laser (VSP laser) uses a series of rotating lenses and electronic cut-offs. This system enables the laser to track a target and alternate the speed with which it generates its pulses, based on range to target. This effect allows the VSP a greater range than a standard pulse laser, but at less damage potential and less accuracy, while such damage and accuracy are conversely increased at shorter ranges."
(Tactical Operations, page 321)

So, basically, it's a "rotary pulse laser" of sorts.

However, R&D for them doesn't start until 3066 and they're not actually available until 3070.
As MWO is currently in 3050, it is unlikely that they will be available for quite some time.
