2xAC10 builds for all 3 variants. Didn't bother with armor distribution.
I could put in an XL300 but that only lets me put in more secondary weapons and a bit of extra speed. I find that I don't use the secondary weapons so much and I'll take the survivability over the speed.
The machine guns on the DD might seem odd but I don't tend to run out of ammo so I added a little damage.

IMO, the speed is worth it: without the speed, a DDC will generally be better, though it doesn't have the high firing position, and you'd have to put UAC5's in instead of AC 10's. The speed is actually linked to both survivability and aim when up against mediums and lights, especially, and being able to be in the right position at the right time is priceless.
I haven't had much luck with the S and DD versions as compared with the A, though I've been running those with 3x UAC5's. See my A build below:
JM6-A 2XUAC5 4XSSRM's 2XML's
I also find the AMS to be useful to mitigate the Stalker LRM fire.
With this build, I didn't lose a single game between full Basic and full Elite, though my W/L ratio with it is now higher than my K/D ratio, which I usually only see on my lights.
We'll see where it goes from Elite to Master.

And yes it seems I do have more problems with lights right now because I simply can't track them fast enough.

Yeah...plus I think I have maybe 1 in 10 games where I die due to a side torso blow out and have a ct that isn't yellow internals yet. Maybe 1/4 of those games are ones, where I could probably have lasted 30+ seconds longer and made a significant contribution. Far more frequently, I blow out that Raven's legs or that Jenner's CT, and think, "Die Little Skeezbot!", which should translate to "I'm glad I have an XL engine so I can blow it up with ML's and UAC5's"
With an XL, though, there is no standing still to fire: you HAVE to keep moving to spread the damage, or you'll get your side torso blown off faster than you can say, "Die Little Skeezbot!"

I think the having unlocked the 2X bonus for the basics makes all the difference. In combination with the bigger engine I can now torso twist fast enough to spread the damage better and the extra speed lets me pick my engagements. I don't tend to lose a side torso until the rest of my mech is about read to go too.
Even so I'm still not a fan of the UAC5's. The AC10's let me put out a good amount of damage on a single spot without the need to stay exposed for a long time. They also provide a good enough range, beyond 450 I'm generally unable to hit a moving target (ping and all that).
I also seem to have some luck with legging ravens lately. They tend to come straight at you.

I finally tried out my JM6-A with the 2X basic bonus, and it's really more aiming speed than absolutely necessary, so I was thinking about putting a std in it, lol.
Good points about the AC10's in exposure and the distance. I find myself not really bothering to shoot at long range most of the time because it's so hard to get hits on a moving target (though I'll snipe the stalkers like a pro as they repeat shut down). However, 2 UAC5's are 6 tons lighter than 2 AC10's. That's the weight of my streaks2's I 'd have to give up, for something, which is less useful while brawling because it has less heat efficiency and dps. Heat efficiency is key with the streaks and ML secondary weapons.

Why does smurfy's mech lab display two different values for the top speed? Is one the standard and one the Xl engine?

JM6-A STD Engine
I might have to try it out. I ran my DD and S with a speed, which was about that, before they got speed tweak, and it wasn't horrible.

Afoxi,
Can you post your Dakka Build?
I have been running Quad AC/2's, but not having much luck getting the damage you were rocking in those matches you posted.
Thanks
