Where is to so called grind in this game?

You just play the game.

You don't have to make quest over and over.

You don't have to farm.

Nothing.

You just play the mech you want.

You get C-Bills.

And then you buy what you want.

Me fex, got more C-Bills then I can spend on reasonable things and I got 22 mechs.

So, if you are not aiming for owning every variant in the game, (like it or not)...

...WHERE IS THE GRIND?

Not when your grinding for ELITE. I'm playing a raven 2X right now so I can get elite on the 3L. In no way shape or form do I "want" to pilot this POS.

Having said that, I really don't feel like MWO has much of a grind if at all.

I am a total F2P player and have spent no money on this game. It would take me a month to buy an Awesome, because I would have to save up.

Edit: what's wrong with the raven 2X?

You don't have to get elite, if this is annoying to you.

The grind stems from the fact that currently, unless you have Premium, on a good win you'll make around 120k.

Accounting for small pauses between each match, and extra-ordinarily long matches plus the occasional lost match, the Average Player without Premium makes around 500-600k per hour. With Premium this number is inflated to around 1m-1.2m.

On a per hour basis of time being devoted to a game that requires you buy three Mechs in order to get them to Master? Each one costing several million CBills? Moreso if you want to outfit them with upgrades and aren't transferring weapons/can't because the variant isn't a cookie cutter.

Huge chunks of time are easily consumed by the simple act of grinding out the XP for Mechs, or even just grinding out the CBills required to buy a Mech. This is easily defined as a grind in any other game.

All free to pay games has some kind of grind. That is because unlike in real games we have to work, spend time, for getting mechs and what not. This is called grind. Grind does not have to be boring repetition but often is. Grind imply that its a slow process and that is what we have in this game. Its fun to play mechs but its still a grind because its a slow process we need to do to get what we want.

Yes there is grind here.

Yes grind is **** but that is the price for playing a free to pay game. People that like grinds need to be taken out behind their barn and get shot.

There may be hope. If a free to pay game flops hard enough they may do as Tribes Ascend just did and give you the possibility to buy the whole game and skip all grinding. For a fair price too.

Edit; most Americans think grinds is nice. I don't know why.

Mastering the 3L or the 5D was kind of a grind imho. Grindy enough to waste my GXP on the V and K Spider variants...

Any other mechs were fine though as there isnt such a disparity inbetween the variants.

I like this game because i level up in real life...

Yes there is no real "typical" grind in MWO, agreed. There is lots of posting about said non existant grind, though. What does and doesn't define grind s a very subjective matter, one person's grind is another's non-grind.

I love playing the game and I'm not impatient my problem is with the other ravens beeing slow fodder turds on the battlefield. They only go 80kph and going that speed in a Light is ridiculous. I can't scout I can't really do much of anything except support my heavies (not necessarily a bad thing) but I don't bring much firepower of other supports. (Medium chasis for example)

I'm basically just throwing myself to the wolves when I play the 2X its not very fun. There is no point in me upgrading anything on it since after I get all the basics completed I'm going to sell it. This gives it a slightly grindy feel.

Unlocking Elite I do find is a grind as some mechs have only 3-4 chassis so you have to pick amongst them and play 3 of them, even though you don't really like some variants of the mech. Because otherwise you'll lose out on upgrades for the variant of the mech you do like, for example 10% extra speed is pretty much a must have if you are piloting faster mechs. I'm really not looking forward to driving the DRG-5N with its' horrible hardpoints. 3 Ballistics on a 60 ton mech just feels so wrong.

I have the ethos in games that if you aren't enjoying it, don't do it.
I play the game for fun, as a byproduct of this I get cbills and XP to spend on trying other stuff out - if I come across a mech and after a few hours of playing I start to think "this is grind" then I give up on that mech and try a different one.

I have no problems playing my favourite mechs to acquire cbills to fit out a new mech while I "grind" the XP to get all the skills unlocked on it - I don't want to play non-upgraded mechs as that is no fun for me, so I always make sure I have the cbills before I start to play it

80kph? I have an XL 245 and it goes 120.

So I gather you have a R3L with decent equipment? Why don't you pull out the parts from it and use in your 2X?

You can certainly swap engines and weapons, but you're kinda up the creek without a paddle when it comes to the FF Armor, Endosteel structure and DHS.

Just a faster engine would make a huge difference, 80kph Raven is a dead Raven :)

Basically this. I don't really want to put another 2,025,000cbills into something I'm going to sell after I get the rest of basic done Just so I can fit a bigger engine. My 3L has a XL 280 but I think i read somewhere that the 2X, 4X can't have an engine bigger than XL245. So I would have to buy that as well.

2,025,000 + 4,001,583 = 6,026,583

I think that is a terrible investment just to make the 2X even viable especially since I'm going to be selling it anyway.
