Why The Tuesday Patch?

I'm off through Monday, and Tuesday I go back to work. It seems every time I have a chance to be off work the day I go back there's the patch! I really wish they'd move patch day to Friday morning. Then I would almost never miss a patch!

For every person who has bad timing on Tuesday, there will be people with the exact same issue for every other day of the week. It's unfortunate that tuesday doesn't work well for you, but it won't be changing.

And in response to above... Servers go down after I am done with my first class and come up right before my last class... I have never had a class during the server maintenance periods

They did it just to spite you. Just like all the other minor inconveniences in your life, someone did it just to spite you. After all, you ARE the centre of the universe.

Look at how upset people were when Planetside 2 patched and hotfixed on a saturday, breaking the game's vehicle weapons and some turrets for the rest of that saturday and a significant portion of sunday (and they had to call the team in on their day off, too). It was a problem for less than two days, but it got them a hell of a lot more bad feedback than previous issues dealt with during the workweek.

Monday will be the final code check.
Patch Tuesday.
Wednesday and Thursday for disaster recovery and hot fixes before the Friday night traffic starts up.
Rinse and repeat. The shift to every other Tuesday may have been driven by the repeated hot fix requirements, so they added more time to digest the code.

Because reasons (i.e. PGI wants to patch on Tuesday).

Patching any production system on a Friday is big no-no.

1. If gives them a day after the weekend to make sure everything is good to go.
2. So many major holidays happen on Mondays (here in US anyway) that it makes more sense on Tuesday.

No code shop wants to release on Fridays or weekends because if you screw up your weekend goes up in a puff of debugging. As many long weekends start on Friday which makes Thursday the same boat.
That leaves Tuesday and Wednesday. Most code shops pick Tuesday but not all.
