I too would like, and use, this feature.
Right now, I've got a Jagermech and am considering swapping out the AC /2 s for 2 more AC / 5s. But because of the weight restrictions, I'm going to need to alter how much armor is distributed. But if it turns out to be a bad build, there's no easy way to switch back to the original, or save the configuration for later.
Especially for some of the more flexible variants, like the base Hunchback or base Atlas.
At the very least have a 'reset to base variant' button so you can click that to bring everything back to the factory default. Remembering exactly how much armor, on which body part is dull and takes time.
In terms of how the interface would work, there could be a dropdown menu for each filled Garage slot that lists all of the player-named variants when you click the dropdown arrow. At the bottom could be a '+' icon to create a new variant slot within that garage entry, for that chassis.
Variants would be saved to that mech chassis, within a player's account for if they sell and then repurchase a chassis, the loadouts would be the same. If the player doesn't have enough spare gear to fill out the saved variant would be red, and have a button to purchase all of the additional gear required to make it deployable. That way it can be a one-click purchase to get back into the action.
