Running along a bit damaged (CT red armour orange internals on front, no armour back). I proceed to alpha strike towards an enemy cat on our base (River city night, lower base, the clear stretch from water to base) and instakill myself. Now this is a bit odd, anyone had the same problem?

Heat was about 30% afaik and no override enabled. Nothing in the way, no mechs nothing.

Ammo is kept in a side torso and neither were damaged down to internals, the only one was CT but no one was shooting me as the last two mechs were in front of me.

The "damage by SRM 4" comes before your "CT destroyed". So there's your cause of death.

Edit: Oh wait that's strange. You're your own killer.

This happened to me once too.

At first I thought it was splash damage.

Then I realized I was being ******** and there is no splash damage from SRMs.

It happened when I was shooting point blank too, dunno what happened though.

This also happened once in my Commando, only, I wasn't firing at all, I was just walking along the river, 0% heat, haven't even fired once and then suddenly I explode, and it says I killed myself, with the cause of death being fall damage?

Yeah, exactly. Really odd I think, I literally blew myself apart with my own SRMs as I fired them

Back in closed beta there was an issue where launched SRM's would suddenly reverse flight and hit you. I imagine that's been fixed by now, but if not it may explain this.

Another possible explanation is that, instantly after firing, the SRMs detected a collision with a mech (the firing mech) and dealt their damage. Considering that they are armed as soon as they are fired, I could see them possibly registering a collision on the front of the mech as they leave the tubes.

They have splash damage and if you are close enough you can catch that splash damage and that can kill you.

Already a thread on this

http://mwomercs.com/...ks-damage-self/ .. They randomly hit yourself when you fire them, and no it isn't splash or terrain it's just litterly blowing up when launched.

Apparently the thread got deleted for no reason...

If you are standing in water and fire SRM's, be very sure your launch tubes are well above the water line or you will kill yourself.

People are only noticing now thanks to the log, it used to just be one of those weird deaths. However, as many people have just started reporting this it is also likely there could be a bug with the height water is reporting as. Unlikely though, for now the official line stands AFAIK.

Except when it happened to me i wasn't in water or close enough for splash damage, how do you explain that one?

Edit - and in his post death screenshot he isn't even in water, is it really that hard to look at the screenshot?

Apologies, I replied from my phone where the image wasn't displayed. All I read was his text which stated

Quote

(River city night, lower base, the clear stretch from water to base)

Which reads as being in water.

Sorry if I was unclear, I was definitely on land, well away from any water

This has happened to me once with exposed/red internals shooting an alpha at face-hugging range, thought it was splash damage and chalked it up to going out in a blaze of glory.

That probably was splash damage like you said.

That I could have understood but there was nothing in front of me and the nearest mech was some distance away. Could a SRM missile shot down by AMS do this? Even so, most damage should have gone to front armour.

If you werent facehugging something when you fired it was most likely a bug.

However, if you facehugged someone or something it can happen that you get splash damage.
I noticed myself, that your own missiles can damage you (at least in a Stalker).
I wanted to know for sure, so i just facehugged a building in Frozen City, fired my 16SRMs and i got an orange CT and damaged Side Torsos.
Range to the building was < 5m

I tested it a few more times from a bit further distances, however it only occurs when you literally bump into your enemy.
A range of 7-8m was safe already
