Ryoma,

Here's what I would suggest. Find a teamspeak to call home. You can either create your own, or join one already in existence.

The following is a link to a whole list of teamspeak, mumble, skype and other voice chat servers that you can check out. Teamspeak is currently the most widely used.

Good ones to first start out on/check out COMSTAR Relay North America and/or Europe.
No Guts, No Galaxy has a very open one as well.
I believe you can request channels in all of the above should you want to have your unit meet there.

There are also House Specific servers out there for units loyal to a particular house or clan.
For example, my Devil Dogs Galaxy, Wolfs Dragoons Mercenary Corps' work exclusively for House Steiner and are members of the House Steiner Hub. This is a collection of units that are all loyal to the Archon/Federated Commonwealth. Some are regular military, some MERCS, and some members are lone wolves who will only work for Steiner/FedCom. Before you go looking for a specific house or clan to affiliate yourself with, I would recommend talking with your membership to see where they would feel most comfortable. For some, flags mean a lot. Others, it's the people they play with that forge the loyalty. I don't know the politics of all the house servers out there. Some may have far more centralized control and ranking than others. These factors may or may not appeal to your unit and should be factored in. (How much politicking and drama do you want? ^_^)

You can also host your own teamspeak, but I would first recommend visiting the various teamspeak hosts/servers out there to get an idea of what the greater community is like. The larger servers are also a good way to meet new guys to grow your unit over time.

The second important step for creating a unit is to create your own website. My merc corp uses a simple free one hosted by weebly.com, but it has no forums. Our forums are part of House Steiner's forums, which allows us to communicate both among ourselves and with the rest of the units we're allied with in the same place.

The rest of these posts generally answer the other side of your question. No, PGI hasn't officially recognized any units. The MWO community is a free-for-all right now, and until community warfare is implimented, many units are in a state of flux. All activities within and between units in the community are 100% governed by the units themselves. If you want your unit to be active in competition, alliance, contests, or other activities with other units then you have to get out there and start rubbing shoulders with other unit commanders. So, again, I urge you to travel around to the various teamspeak servers and see what the community is all about.

Your unit needs a home to grow. It needs a website - or something as basic and a facebook community/channel, and it needs a place to gather to talk, discuss tactics, and coordinate drops. The more active your unit is, and the more you work together, the stronger your unit will be.

Also, once you have a site, I recommend you register your unit here:

And on the MWOwiki here.

Good Luck!
