Looks like the guys from mektek are making an arena style Heavy Gear mech game. From the looks of it, melee combat might be included.

Competition is always good for the consumer :D

I'd be more interested if they had more to show than a cheap CGI teaser and concept work for maps and a cockpit. =\

gross, they make it sound like an armored core game. Heavy gear had huge open areas, and your gear could go into a travel type mode to cover it.

I'm guessing that they have just finalized the deal. No sense working on assets for a game based on IP owned by another company until you gets the rights.

It's my understanding that they were showing off a mech warrior version of the game about a year ago, but were shut down due to MWO coming out. Solaris arena, I think it was called.

Armored core was a lot of fun, until they removed the arcade/speed feel of the action I feel. Though I almost exclusively played the arenas, maybe I missed out on the slow play portions of the series.

Of all the mech games that were around in the 90's the best ones were

Shogo,
MechWarrior,
Starsiege

And HeavyGear.

I've taken note and keeping tabs

They did good things for MW4, but I'm not sure how committed they are to this project. Only time will tell.

Never played shogo. I didn't much like starsiege. I did like some aspects of Heavy Gear. The whole roller skating thing kind of seemed silly.

Starsiege was AMAZING, I still have my box copy. Free from testing it, back when you actually had to send places a "resume" pretty much to test products.

That damn box weighs like 6 pounds, it's packed with content.

I agree. I feel like they're completely missing the point of the old games.

Did anyone look at their 'goals'? They seam a bit... underwhelming and unrealistic to me... and their rewards seam a bit much too. It worries me when a pre launch backing gives a year of premium subscription under $100, with a ton of other stuff... It leaves little for you to invest in for a year or so after launch... which makes me worry that its a cash grab.

Jordan Weissman you did it !

You revived the Combat Simulator Genre... or WoT.

There are a lot of old School Combat Simulators down the tube right now. Hawken is the weakest of them an arrived early.
Mechwarrior is one of the heavy Weights and is fine in resurrecting the old Legend. Chris Roberts came out of nowhere and
is restarting Spave Opera Combat Simulation.

Wargaming net have the Edge on the WW2 themed Games. So we have Wargaming net as newcommer on an old Theme. Mechwarrior is resurrected and putting quite a fight against modern style Arcade Games like Hawken. So it's somehow natural that other old Big Names and new Names want to go into the Business. It's the 90's all over.

And i like it. But for me there is only ONE stompy robot Themed game i will spend money on.
And thats is the one with the BT Franchise. (As long as Heavy Gear is not putting up a real good game
but they are at least 2 Years of development short, but the guys have more Experience in Combat Sims)

Hopefully we will get more Games like in the 90's there had been realy good Games challenging to play,
and Hardwarethirsty as hell. This will bring Evolution back to the PC.

TLDR;
More Competition, more good Games, the 90's were far better in Computer Games then the late 00's.
BIg Names make their comeback, that can only be good.

I've always wondered why there is usually so much hate for Armored Core in the BT/MW community... Obviously they are two very different beasts, with BT/MW being more simulator and AC being more action oriented, but they both focus on a common theme: Controlling a mech.

While having staunch supporters in both camps, you'd think people would appreciate both series for what they add to the Mech genre (little as it is!) and would combine to form a yet larger community to get more people interested in all things Mech related!

Just my 2 cents and I'll be checking out this game when it comes out.

Same universe, anyway. Starsiege is the sequel to Earthsiege 1&2.

MekTek has never made a game before. Hard to expect much from it. But who knows, maybe it will turn out good.
