Like I said, going off the minimum hardpoints. Hopefully the other variants will have more than that, or perhaps have more sensible weapon locations, but the Stalker 3H and 4N have no advantages at all. Which makes me pessimistic for the other two Trebuchet variants.

Then again, PGI said they intend to differentiate mechs with quirks, and they've been mostly doing good things lately, so I'm expecting to be wrong!

Yeah, I'm still a bit bumhurt over the 3H and 4N.

Seems like the 7M, 3C and 7K are going to be the only popular models, going off the minimum hardpoints...

According to HeavyMetal (I'm not sure which TRO this particular info comes from), the 5J has a 150m(!!!) jump capability. I'm thinking that one will likely be popular as well if they stick with the canon. :D

The 3H should have 20 missile launch points in the arms, right?

It does. But that's only helpful if you're specifically running an LRM20 (and only one)

I hate small sized salvos. I picked up an Atlas RS and it's miserable compared to my other mechs. If you want to equip LRM 20s, they are most effective in the C4 or 3H. I'm not fond of staggered fire, as AMS eats them up. Not that anyone carries AMS besides myself or has boiled LRMs down to a science and skill.

First, Thanks Redshift, as always, for finding all those little tid-bits of information from all over and throwing them together into a discernible format and giving us a good idea of what is going on, and posting it on the forums where the people who actually would like to know this information come to look for it. If your ever in my home town, I owe you a drink.

2nd, and this is NOT directed at redshift, but to the mods/devs/whoever is in charge of the forums........How is it that one speculation thread is worthy of pinning, yet another is removed from pinning for being speculation? (precedent, setting a standard and all that).. not wanting to be an a..hat, but the disjointedness of it makes it hard to keep the faith.

Edit - can't speelll, public scool edumacation. and apparently puntuaition isnt my strong point either.

You can except to see lots of Treb and everyone complain about ECM and PPC. Myself i will be going bonkers over Alpine and complaing that I still don't have my Highlander mech yet. I have a thing for jump jet equipped mechs and I don't as a rule pop tart but I will DFA as soon as it is in.

most spider mechs can jump over 200 meters.

The TROs use jump distance, but MWO uses jump height. The Trebuchet jump height will probably be more than a Catapult but less than a Jenner.

The only speculation thread that was pinned (and subsequently unpinned) was the 'upcoming mech list' which was useful for a long time because it provided some semi-factual information because we had concrete dates for some of the upcoming mechs, but as we've gotten further and further along the mech release schedule it gradually became more and more speculative (because we haven't been given any more facts about mech release date or concept art release dates)

Why is it required that some forum dude do what PGI should do and actually communicate the status and implications of major content updates to it's userbase..?

You do realize that everything in the OP is stuff that was already communicated to us by PGI.... All Redshift did was consolidate it into one post.

Yes. Something he shouldn't have had to do. PGI is the only company I am aware of that doesn't preview its patches at least 24 hours ahead of time and presents the contents in a cohesive single place. Gathering rumors that may or may not be still accurate to the contents of the patch isn't something Red should have had to do at all. It's kinda sad.

They made an official monthly preview.

Unfortunately, it left out several feature the player may deem important (such as the weapon changes) and did not offer much in the way of direct links to more details (such as linking directly to Paul's explanations of the Elo system) and announcing the Trebuchet but not including the variants list (which have been confirmed for months in the Ask the Devs series)

The official monthly preview isn't a preview of patch content, nor a good explanation of changes, timetables, or context. It also occurs once a month when they release two (previously four) patches. After going silent, missing their art preview date, and giving no meaningful contact in the last two weeks it's just kinda amateur hour on their part.

Way more than 24 hours in advance.. And tells what is going to be in the patches for February. And that's not a "rumor". That's an official developer update, and outline for February.

And they miss their own updates regularly, so it's not a meaningful preview of upcoming patches. If that list mattered we'd have MG and flamer changes, PPCs would have been heat fixed last month, jump jets would be functioning in a satisfactory way NOW, and we'd already be bored of alpine. Vaguely given promises a month in advance aren't the kind of patch time communique they should be doing.

No one else in the industry handles its public facing this way for a reason.
