I'm rather fuzzy-headed from a cold and the cold medicine right now so take what I say with a grain of salt.
I'm about lucid enough to know I'm not lucid enough, if that makes sense.
But I had a thought and felt the need to show it.
When building a light mech, the first thing 99% of what people tell you is to get the biggest fastest engine you can fit into it - speed is life.
When fighting light mechs, the first thing 99% of what people tell you is to mount streak missiles, because it is one of the best ways to counter said speed.
In a match the other day I got killed early and then got to listen to one of my teamates ina 150kph raven complaining about how much he hates streak missiles.
I am trying not to sound like I'm whining - or complaining, but if you put less emphasis on running over learning to think and position yourselves then you give them more options than streaks and lasers to hunt you with.
-I run at about 110kph in my Commando, and the biggest thing I fear is almost any mech actually facing me. -And frequently feel I'm still moving to fast to react to their positioning properly.
Please- pure emphasis on speed equals an arms race where there are only losers.
-The light mechs never actually learn to PILOT
-The other mechs react in predictable ways which should deny you the right to properly complain about it.
...I cannot wait for collision to come back so there is actually consequences for not piloting well

Going about 140+/- (XL 320 + Speed Tweak) seems to be enough for me in my Cicada. Fast, but still has weapons/heatsinks. M.Pulse fires off faster, and hits harder for better accuracy at high speeds. Armour of a 40 tonner offsets the lack of Streaks.
Going to love beating on light mechs with a TBT-5J, refitted to be a Wraith.
