It sounds like much needed new player tutorial fluff. You get certified after you complete it.

What is laughable is you thinking piloting an Atlas takes more skill than a Commando. Different skill set, yes, more not even close.
Reading fail Merc, I didn't say that in the least. That idea would support OP's tier restriction, which I do not support. I said that there isn't any part of the existing game that justifies keeping people out of rides they want to pilot.

Assaults have a learning curve that's arguably steeper than any other mech out there. I don't think it really matters how long you've been playing, the first couple of times you drop in an assault mech, you're gonna suck. By no means am I heavens gift in a 'phract, but I can at least put in a solid showing, but in my Atlas I feel as useful as a beached whale. It's heartbreaking to know that I'm doing well under par for my team when I roll in my Atlas, but the only way to get better at the moment is to practice in game and thereby drag down my teams score.
Yes and no. Basically an Assault has to decide ahead of time if he should commit or not because once he goes in he is stuck in. If it was a bad idea to crest that hill you are stuck with that decision for a lot longer than others. That is the one thing that is different from piloting other mechs. Lights have an opposite version of it where they have to make some snap decisions in the moment or perish but can often get out of a bad position quickly.

Yep... my bad. it sounded like you were agreeing with him on parts of his statement. My apologies.

That is something they should have had from the start. Sadly, they opted for youtube videos.

Why would you make a tutorial(which is coded) that you would have to update and test every time you changed a system in a patch? Video means you record a new one. Tutorial means coding, QA, tweeking, more QA, Bug fixing. Once the updates only come every 3 months and the core mechanics are all actually in the game, then it makes sense to make a tutorial.
