Replace the Track-IR and ST1080 with an Oculus Rift and you're down one less piece of hardware.
Of course, this assumes the Track-IR or Oculus Rift will eventually be supported.

of course, this assumes every random person is buying all that stuff...
tbh, i am perfectly fine with the system we currently have, why would i even WANT to split the firepower of my arms between 2 mechs?

But no. Not each arm seperately. There are much much more important things to deal with them moving arms seperately.
By targeting I mean one thing.
Make the arms into 2 parts seperated slightly based on the mech, and then the torso into 3 dashed lines to simulate it firing directly forwards as opposed to all weapons centering onto a point.
Would look something (yes its just o and -) like this:
o - - - o
No other impact on the weapons, just that the left arm fires into the left circle, right arm into the right circle.
Left torso to left line, middle torso/head into the middle line, Right torso into the right line.
TLDR (its not that long ffs)
make targeting reticle look like this:
o - - - o

In one game tonight, I was doing "run and gun" attacks behind the enemy position on one side of the ridge in Frozen City in my 89KPH Pretty Baby. Because all my weapons fire also activate TAG, I noticed that my team mates were letting lose their LRMs on each target I shot at. So, next match, I decided to oscillate my torso twists in a way that enabled me to alternately fire at two targets who were under ECM cover, allowing my LRM-equipped team mates to target both of them. A good number of enemy mechs were heavily damaged or destroyed using this tactic just tonight.
Now, imagine a scenario in which a scout is targeting 2-3 unsuspecting enemy mechs from behind.

I am sure there are more ways to take advantage of such a feature.

not a bad idea i admit. but in the end.. wouldn't it be better to just mark the ECM carrying mech so they all focus this guy and after that, there is no ECM?

This. Splitting up the torsos, probably also the arms to small degree, would put a dent in the ability of ppc/gauss/AC20 boats to nail a person in the head for over 40 damage with a single lucky hit or just their ability to ping mechs like the Awesome in the CT with every single hit with absolutely no difficulty.

Unless you're playing against a 4-man consisting of 4 Atlas D-DC's with ECM lights to boot. It happens waaay more often then it should.

Well, I imagine there might be a toggle between what exists now and what I am proposing, especially given that not everyone will probably be able to take advantage of a 3-reticle system. In any case, I myself would sometimes still want to use the current system (i.e. convergence) depending on the situation.
