Can some one explain to me how I had an "ammo explosion" with ammo that isnt volatile "being slugs" as well as not containing a volatile propellant. since the propellant is a line of magnets and magnets aren't volatile either... :I what happened to logic.

You sure it wasn't the rifle itself that blew up? Magnets aren't volatile, but a crapton of electricity being shunted right into your chassis is going to hurt.

Are you sure it wasn't the Gauss Rifle itself that didn't explode?

Otherwise, you WILL get messages that your ammo is destroyed.... but it shouldn't do any damage to you.

Also check if you had AMS ammo stored there. A lot of people forget that it can explode, and badly.

When the Gauss Rifle explodes it is counted as an ammo explosion. But it wasn't the ammo but the actual weapon that went up.

okay if it was the rifle itself that exploded and killed me...I guess but it still doesn't make any sense that some thing that isnt explosive would explode and kill me

You ever see what happens when a capacitor explodes?

Its not pretty, and those are TINY ones. A Gauss Rifle has huge caps.

The rifle exploded. It's listed as an ammo explosion.

I like that! They should put a delay on the Gauss explosion, with that hissing sound as a warning to cover your head.

Not sure if CASE prevents weapon explosions from killing you, although it does prevent ammo explosions from "Carrying" over to other parts of your structure. However, if you're running an XL engine there's nothing that can help you.

pretty much this. it isolates a ammo exposion to the location the ammo in question was placed in.
If you wanna toss case on the mech with guass and let it get blown off you could post your results on here!

CASE is roughly comparable to a Blowout pannel system.

Its kind of like that.

To expand, CASE will prevent the ammo or gauss rifle explosion from spilling over into adjacent sections. However, if the guass is in the same section as an XL engine, CASE is pointless.

FYI, applying real-life science to Mechwarrior is an exercise in futility. Yes, capacitors explode IRL, and yes, it makes perfect sense for Gauss Rifles to have ginormous capacitors, but it doesn't make sense that Gauss Rifles have ginormous capacitors and energy weapons don't. Any power source capable of driving capacitor-less lasers (let alone capacitor-less particle beams) with the capabilities described in the lore could easily drive a capacitor-less Gauss Rifle.

For that matter, even if you could make a capacitor-less laser, why would you? Sure, a one-second duration beam cuts a nice, long line, but I'd rather through-and-through an Atlas in a millisecond. After all, one itty-bitty hole in the fusion bottle and the whole thing goes bye-bye.
