MM remains ******** as long as weight classes aren't taken into account. It's simply no fun to encounter a team that has 3 ATLAS while own team doesn't even one a single assault.

Since this game has single death matches, it will tend to have landslide victories because one stupid decision by one player and/or one disconnect can give one side a huge advantage, which is all but insurmountable. This leads to slaughterfests when you look at the final tally...it's the nature of the game and real war in general. However, the beginning is often quite evenly matched until something pushes it over the edge.
I will, however, weigh in that MM seems a bit unbalanced. I have a 1.8:1 W/L Ratio in my Treb 3C and 7M, with almost a 3:1 KDR. Same thing with my 3L. I solo pug, so something is wrong with how it is matching me up, though I do find that high population times tend to result in much more even games, whereas I had the reverse experience before MM. The problem is that I frequently play between midnight and 2 am, and these games are generally imbalanced, except on the weekend.

If I understand it correctly Elo system takes into account whether player is winning or losing (without any other factors). It works well for chess (from where is it taken) because there are only 1 vs 1 games. Here we have 8 vs 8 game, so the fact whether I win or lose doesn't depend on my performance only, but also my teammates'. I can win the match while doing absolutly nothing and have my Elo rating increased, and can lose while killing 7 oponents by myself and get killed by 8th - and have my Elo decreased.
Does it actually work like that or am I missing something?

This is indeed how ELO actually works. It is the reason that the various mechs I pilot have K/D ratios of between 2.5 on the low end and 9 on the high end (excluding the one drop in the trial DRG-1C, never again. Ugh.) but have less than a 50% win rate.

I've become less than thrilled with how the new matchmaking works ever since it was introduced. Finally it came to a head after last match when there was a serious tonnage disparity. Five Atlas-D-DC on the opposing team. Four of which were obviously premade and I can begrudgingly accept that but shouldn't there be some sort of red flag that goes up when half the team is composed of assaults? Meanwhile our team only had two assaults and only one was an Atlas if I recall correctly. Yes it was conquest and yes we arguably had more mobility but against the firepower of four coordinated Atlai with a fifth (I'm making an assumption here) following their lead just stumbling into them would result in instant death as you are barraged with everything they have.
And an idea to entertain: if a premade attempts to launch with four assaults then limit their team by one less mech. This obviously won't happen but one can dream.
