Guys you are over thinking this..
Keep weight balance like we have now AND
Fix it so pugs only fight pugs...4 mans can fight only 4 mans...and 8 mans can fight only 8 mans....
Once we start 12 vs. 12.... 4's and 8's can group together... and pugs only group with pugs.
DONE.....

Sound GREAT. Write the rules for the matchmaker, why don't you? Not coding, just write the rules for timeouts, ideal matching, step-back if ideal is not available, weight-matching, special exceptions (is a Cicada a medium or a light or just 35 tons), handling of odd-numbered premades like 2s and 3s. It's so frickin' simple everyone should be able to do it.
Oh, and since most of you could code this game in 5 minutes on the back of an envelope, why the heck haven't you so I don't have to put up with this beta anymore?

Why even worry about the MM? Put a lobby in so teams can play teams. So we can pick maps. Etc.

Wait, we are forced to do full 8 mans. How hard can it be to have full 4 mans..? This guys has a simple but effective idea.

Not hard. The problem comes in if you have a 2 man or 3 man group. These players are either forced to play solo or somehow recruit others to fill their group which is difficult to do with the limited communication tools in this game.
