The Most Fun Mech To Play With

Right now I have saved a lot of money and after being unhappy with my initial centurion d (sold him after 20 games) I am very happy with my raven so far.
It is so much fun to be fast in light mechs and just run through a raging battlefield lasers and rockets left and right. Being mobile rox.
So thats one reason I have a lot of fun with this mech.
But now I want a second (or third mech more precisley) but I am so unsure which one. I tend towards either Hunchback or Atlas.
I'd like to know which mech you are having most fun with so far and why. You can name more than one mech of course. Just explain briefly why its so much fun for you personally.
Thx in advance

And I have a Hunchback G(founder), P and SP.
I very rarely play my atlas. It's just so slow. And a big target. Also you can never run away from an engagement. To pilot an assault effectively you need to know exactly where your team is. If you find youself on your own you'll get surrounded and killed fast.
I love my hunchbacks. They're so much fun to play. And cheap too. No need for xl engine.
And they do a ton of damage if piloted correctly.
I say buy a hunchback and remember to use your speed to your advantage.
Get the HBK-4H if you want ballistics
4SP if you want srm action
4P if you want laser boat.

No substitutions.
-You're just about as fast as a medium with the armor of (at the very least) a heavy mech
-Your profile is stupidly thin compared to your front, so your torso is very hard to hit when you look to the side
-The Srms fire out of the slots 2 at a time so that results in a very accurate 'missile laser' instead of the typical srm clouds
-It has tremendously sexy heat management especially if you get behind a big slow target or take cover and stop so your heat vents
-3 Medium Lasers, 2 Srm4s and 1 srm6 deal such massive damage as opposed to spamming 2 SRM6s and Large Pulse Lasers/PPCs/any other energy weapon. (see the heat management point)
The only downside is that it's EXPENSIVE. VERY EXPENSIVE. You must buy the best engine to get the full efficiency out of this machine and double heat sinks are literally obligatory for every mech you own. Additionally, it has an XL engine in it so if you lose a side torso, you're dead. That's why you want to wait for the team to engage then swoop in and come crashing down before running away as soon as the enemy starts shooting at you.

I played, but didnt care for he Centurians much. I have but rarely ever drive my Cataphracts, though I find them effective. I dont like the lights like you do, and I couldnt get the hang of the Cicada.
I think if you want something a bit heavier than a Hunch, that with the new maps coming, I would try a Dragon or maybe Awesome.

When we first started running dual AC20 K2's in October, this was a lot of fun, now that everyone and their mother has tried it (and the splatcat/streakcat) it has become one of those "cheese builds" from overusage, but still very effective if playing 8-man where ECM is dominant.

All varients of this mech.
The dragon is the most versitile mech in the game.
It's sometimes called a heavy mech cleverly disguised as a medium mech. Since the armor is very thick, the speed is also astounding, (a 300 engine will get you 81 kph pre speed tweak) xl engines on them are fantastic because the shoulders are so small. The hardpoints are also very diverse meaning you can missles lasers and ballistics on any of the normal varients, even despite the 60 ton weight.
I get upward of 500-800 damage per game with it. And I'll tell you how.
The trick is learning to play the dragon. Many people will dismiss it because of the tonnage, but in the right hands you can do amazing things. The speed firepower and armor will allow you to engage and disengage from a brawl, chase lights (for a bit), and anything else you set your mind to.
If there is one thing you need to learn about the dragon is positioning. If you can master positionment you can wreck havok on a team, because you can easily change it depending on a momments notice. Also because of your speed, a dragon can dodge alot of incoming fire like a light would.
The other thing about the dragon is you need to know your limits. How much damage you can take, how much damage you can do, and finally how long can I engage without losing my option to disengage and regrouping?
Also with the new map in the mix, the dragon can take so much more advantage of its mobility. Especially if you put on my favorite 5n/1c build (mine dont both have it but both mechs are possible to use it.)
xl300
2ppcs
1 gauss rifle (2 tonnes of ammo)
and still more armor than a medium. (legs only have 20-30 armor, torso/shoulder armor unsacrificed)
With thisyou have enough power to oneshot light mechs with it, and doing that will make your day.)
So if your genuinly interested in a dragon, give the 1c a shot. it's generally alot more versitile than the other two. And best suited for figuring out how they play.
Best of luck to thee.

Very agile sniper. And with the fixed Elite Pilot Skill that reduces cooldown it's just a great long range fire support mech. The hardpoint positions and ECM are just great for out of cover sniping.

Trenchbucket-7M (fast attacker, very fun... kinda fragile)
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...d307865d9bff4ac
Cataphract-3D (Flying AC20... what's not to like?)
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...79ce3b0b3c15fdd
Cataphract-2X (FIREPOWER!!!! This thing will crush everything short of a D-DC in close combat)
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...7d5cc9a77317b5a
Atlas D-DC (MORE FIREPOWER!!! AND ECM!!! Nothing stands up to this thing in a protracted battle, just use cover till you're in optimum range, otherwise you're gonna have a bad time)
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...c5a3a20273d6502
All of these designs have been tweaked, tested, retweaked and retested. They all work extremely well if you know how to use them. I'd have to say the most fun is that trebuchet though... flying around at 100kmph is awesome, and it has major punch to boot. A very close 2nd is the CTF-3D... I've got well over 400k experience in it. Super versatile, that one... though, you must get good at torso rolling to spread the damage out, and absolutely make it a priority to protect that AC20.
Edit: I hate boating mechs, if you can't tell. Boat builds can only ever be effective at their chosen range/role... so extremely limited tactically. A good, balanced mech is far superior when the sh*t hits the fan.

IMO, its the only heavy mech that can really synergize the 3 different weapon types in the game.
Its also one of the more rarer mechs to be found in randoms, I haven't played in the meta for awhile, but last time I checked they were fairly non-existant in 8v8s...

No seriously, thx for the input. I got a good look at what you guys like about your specific choices. The cataphracts are not my cup of tea simply because I just dont like their design. Stupid I know.
The Atlas is a badass and i wanted to get a heavy strong mech to feel the battle not in a fast raven but a big guy for once. But as snowcrow mentioned it is very slow and I see how much difficulties even some bad piloted medium mechs have when I got room and can circle them or vanish between buildings to come from a different angle.
So atlas is just too imobile for my taste. I will probably go with the hunchback 4sp as a first run.
But yeah continue giving ur most fun mechs. I really luv the input and watch videos to your builds to see what they look like in action.

It's kind of ironic. The Centurions were the first I had mastered, and the CN9-D is now the oldest mech still in my mechbays. The 300 XL does give enough speed to mostly keep up with the scouts, while the combination of Ultra AC/5, 2 SRM4 launchers, and 2 medium pulse lasers bring a lot of multi-purpose firepower into a brawl. (Centurion Brawler) But until recently, I had actually been running it with 1 SRM4, 1 medium pulse, TAG, and an LRM 20. (My old Centurion)
"Until recently," in this case means that I now have 3 different Trebuchets I'm now experimenting with. Being able to fit the TAG and 2 more lasers to back up paired LRM 10s, or a PPC & LRM combo is proving to be lots of fun at 97kph. I can't wait to master them.

Ironically enough, this reminds me a lot one of the TBT-7M variant Trebuchet I just customized.
- Just about as fast as a light mech, with jump jets.
- Maximum armor possible on a medium mech. (Except for 1 point each leg.)
- 3 Medium Lasers, 2 SRM4s, and an SRM6
- Manages heat well enough to handle firing all those SRMs non-stop.
I actually do have Atlas mastery and an AS7-D-DC that's a terror at any range. So I do understand the appeal of assault mechs. This Atlas is just about the slowest machine I'm willing to pilot, and only then because the DC is the only thing bigger than 40 tons that can carry ECM. Even so, this mech's ability to outright shred opponents just brings a smile to my face all too frequently.

I call him Honey-Badger. My friends laugh at me when I'm playing him. My favorite times are hunting mediums, and outpacing some.
