Anyone got a screenshot of the treb being that tall? I didn't notice it being anywhere close to the size of an atlas when I was playing last night, but I may just have been paying attention to the relative sizes.

well I was running around in my cent and it was a head and a bit taller than me.

Tell that to all the atlases I jump over and behind.

JJs would be perfect if they un nerfed the amount of fuel you get.

In the Treb, with 5 jumps, I can leap over any enemy mech pretty easily and still have juice left for a soft landing. I can easily get up over buildings and onto the tall base on river city.
I would certainly not mind some more height, but it's enough for me as is.

Is it just me, or does that atlas look like it has a different head? It looks similar to the founders atlas head but on a normal atlas.

Nothing... My first thought was "And?"

The "heighth" of a 'mech only has a small part in its weight.

A very tall, but slender man can weigh less than a shorter fatter/stockier one.

SLENDERMAN, WHERE?!?!!?

The entire concept of comparing the 2d size of mechs in a 3d game is inadequate at best. Even 3d is not good enough. Those comparing the Dragon and Centurion height for instance forget that the dragon has a much longer torso - almost long enough you can hit center front of the torso from behind the mech. The Centurion, while tall, has a comparatively narrow center torso balancing that out. Similarly, the Trebuchet has a fairly narrow torso profile in width and depth (compared to other mediums), this mixed with the fact that even stock variants move at 74 KPH (notably both centurion and hunchback are 10kph slower stock) can make it a much harder target in the right hands.

Similarly comparisons between the Cataphract and Catapult fall short. The catapult is definitely fairly beefy sized, however with the relatively smaller side torsos the Catapult is somewhat more likely to remain deadly right up till it dies. The Cataphract has a very wide front profile which leads to ease in getting those crucial center hits in a moving close range fight, as well as making it easier to strip off both side torsos (and the weapons there in or attached in the arms).

Even more distinct is the Commando/Jenner comparison. Both may be very close to the same height, but a Commando is much thinner in profile - making shots at one running past somewhat more difficult. Likewise the raven has a narrow front profile compared to the similarly bulky cicada.

different shapes, torso's, side profile's ect gotta look at it in 3d or your not doing it right ..... the only 2 mech's that look out of whack to me are the catapult being too big and either the jenner or the cicada being out of whack (prob the cicada being too big). To truly call it one would have to extract the full 3d model and the do a volume comparison, even then it can still be argued "air space"

As for buckets being too easy to leg, anything moving 100km/h+ and being smart about it ain't that easy to hit. The 7k in my mech bay will hit those figure's easy using an xl when i get speed boost and still have a 21.5 ton weps loadout with 228 armor. Not too shabby for a medium

Remember, ladies, it's not only about length. It's also about girth.

Stalker needs to be 10% bigger in all axes. Awesome needs to be 10% smaller in all axes.

The rest are fine.

The ideal solution is to compare internal screen shots of the cockipit with the external ones. Then compare across all mechs. Just eye-b*ll (ball is a bad word? lol) it, the Atlas is about 50% shorter than it should be, or the cockpit on the bucket it way too huge...

OK, it's time to settle this once and for all. We're going to need one of each mech and a really big bucket of water.

First intelligent thing said in this thread...

"Yes", fluid displacement is the only way one could rationalize the actual mass of Mechs. The whole "X is taller than X premise is extremely flawed as height is only one indicator and ignores girth and density.

Ok, here's proof that PGI messed with something. Either they made the jenner way huge, or shrunk the catapult...

The thing that bugs me is that their original designs (from here: http://penny-arcade....ricate-birth-of ) and they look GREAT. Right to scale.

Anyone have a current shot of a jenner next to a cat? I bet they aren't anywhere near close.

The only real obvious issue is that based on this view, the windows in the cockpit should go to my feet, so I'd have a clear view of the ground, but they don't, not even in the design on the same page:

And then this:

They aren't matching up with their own ratio tests.... *sigh* I will test this in photoshop and see how bad they munged it. :)

In your pictures the pilots appear to be significantly smaller than the person standing to the side of the mechs. o_0

These are not my pictures, they are from PGI's designs... click the link to see.
