My reason is because they're all a Byzantine clusterfu*ks modeled after Europe (I despise the entire continent), Japan, and China, with all the retardation of the United States, driven by hereditary monarchies that have all the inbreeding and entitlement you'd expect from inbred royalty.

The Inner Sphere can be best summed up as a bunch of fools fighting countless wars over the nothing that is left, merely to be the one to say they get to rule over the biggest ruin in a scrapheap of a galaxy.

Still, I like them a good deal better than the communist douchebombs that run the Clans.

I dislike the IS for the same reasons I dislike the Clans.

*Poor forms of government(Feudalism, Military Dicatorships, Facisim/National Socialism/Communism)
*Overbearing/cruel leaders
*Class/Caste system
*A willingness to harm civilians
*Propaganda/Bias
*Warmongering

Generally making life for the average person terrible. Although the saving grace of the IS is that usually they are motivated by greed and not the insane, psychotic warmongering goals of the Clans.

I hate both the IS and Clans because of their respective political follies (see the posts above). All that there is left to judge them on, then, is their gear: and boy is Clan tech retardedly overpowered. I'll take Clan tech any day because getting roflstomped repeatedly generally isn't a very enjoyable experience.

Be that as it may with Clan tech, as one person pointed out in another topic, high-powered omnimechs and sweet gear do not a conquest make. The Clans just can't compete with the Inner Sphere's sheer numbers, superior logistics (You think wars are won with weapons? Amateur! Wars are won with supply lines!), and the fact that the IS worlds are fighting defensive wars (Fortifications and said logistics) means that the Clans don't have a hope to win.

So a really bad rip off of native americans with a logical conclusion of eugenics and a 'throw away the elderly' mindset with a hate ***** for no second chances led by a guy who lacked the ********** fortitude to place himself on the throne after the power vacuum he created and instead deigned for the most childish of responses of, "I'm taking my ball and leaving" really gets you hard eh?

Please learn to read.

However, either way I am not sure that supporting any of the things I mentioned in my post are requirements for basic level humanity or intelligence.

The fact that some things occur frequently throughout history, such as ********, doesn't mean they should be excused.

The Inner Sphere has sheer numbers and use guerrilla tactics , that's how they win. The Inner Sphere's logistics are not better than the Clans. If the Clans actually took their time and properly prepared, like Clan Wolf, their supply lines are just as good. The Clans had more jumpships, dropships, and warships, than the Inner Sphere.

Fortifications mean nothing in war. They should have learned from history. (ie. Maginot Line)

The IS illustrates the nature of humans to, regardless of wealth, stall out forward progress in the seeking of more wealth. The IS fights amongst itself not to survive, but to have *more* wealth on top of already (for the most part) high amounts in most areas. The poor suffer while these little kingdoms play their game of thrones. The outcome of any IS fighting is always a loss no matter the result. With no external threats, man will only fight himself. The Clans are a direct contrast. However, they are not above corruption, as it's the lure of honor and eventually the perversion of doctrine (depending on perspective of course) that leads to further bloodshed. At the end of the game, the pawn and king both go into the same wooden box. Given my limited knowledge, I like the Clans far more than the IS, but prefer the ideal of reunification on both sides to achieve balance. Until the Tyranids show up. Then we're all f'cked.

I dislike the leadership of the Successor States, not the IS factions in general.
In the IS many are born into positions of power, the Clans have to actually work to achieve anything.

That being said, I actually like mercs and how much effort they have to put into surviving and keeping their units operational.

Dislike?? Why would we dislike something we wish to liberate from tyranny and greed?

True, but in the clans they have humans who are bred/engineered into positions of power, which is pretty similar isn't it? Sure they still have to work for it, but they're being given every possible genetic advantage, which could be argued is the same as the nobility of the IS. (just that the IS nobles have a monetary/social-status advantage instead of a genetic one)

I generally really like most of the factions in BT. I enjoy that every faction is "evil" in their own way, and it's a lot of shades of grey, instead of having an obvious "good guy" nation.

Dislike is about how far as I would state it. Outside of Liao, that is. I mean, I would hate Liao if it was not so incredibly obvious that we are supposed to hate them. Too obvious, ya know?

I do have a couple reasons for my dislike, however. I dislike the IS because, as others have said, they bombed themselves into the stone age, and are too damned stubborn/stupid/greedy to realize that the course of action they have chosen to follow has been a largely self defeating one. I also have a real passionate hate for Victor Ian Steiner-Davion (and learning of how he eventually died actually made me snicker aloud). He was never Luke Skywalker to Kai-Allard's Han Solo. He was just ******* annoying as hell.

What draws me away from the IS houses the most is precisely what draws me towards the Clans. The lack of (albeit artificial) sense of honor. Warriors of the Inner Sphere for the most part like stacked odds, and while it is tactically sound I dislike the concept of fighting dirty.

That is not to say I would not fight dirty if I had to in order to win against odds I was reasonably certain I would fail against otherwise, mind you, but, well.... What is more fun? Having a shootout with one other person, or being the unfortunate ******* who gets chosen to be focus fired upon by four mechs? Both parties get to stand a chance in the first case and test their skills against one another. In the second, one person is dead without any possible opportunity to compensate for it due to better individual piloting capabilities. It is downright frustrating (especially when you are not even separated from a pack, just got the bad end of the eenie meenie minie moe designation). Conversely, I find it far, far less enjoyable to nuke someone into the ground with coordinated strikes than it is to actually push my personal capabilities against another person's combat capabilities and see who is the better fighter.

Incidentally, that is why if I ever had to choose, I would choose the Draconis Combine as my favorite of the IS houses, since they have their own honor code they stick by and do, indeed, also tend to get into duels with enemy mechs. It is not so much that I like them, I just like them more than the other houses.

I just can't stomach the Clans "medieval" sense of honor and their hypocrisy.

It's a fall back to the days of Samurai and Knights who killed peasants and claimed it was a fair fight. After which they made the rest of said group into second class or lesser citizens, citing some obscure reason. Such as they aren't of the proper blood, lineage or they don't hold enough property.

Then blamed the peasants when they rebelled or revolted or even fought back(admittedly in manners that were not viewed "honorable"), citing it as proof of how dishonorable they were.

Then you have "Bondsman" which is again similar to "ransoming" that was done, in both cases it is not something extended to anyone but simply those who manage to "impress" their captors often due to status or occasionally ability. (For instance look at a medieval battle, the average soldier was simply done away with if captured, the average noble was almost always ransomed).

It also reminds me of selective "Christianity" wherein, if you are Christian or follow a certain denomination you are a "real" person and should be treated well. But if you happen to go against the "word of God" you are deemed as a sinner and you have no rights any more.

------------

The problem with both the IS and the Clans is that for the average, common civilian they are terrible places to live if you aren't lucky.

Kursowa, who as it turns out was a descendent of a Samurai family, included his own interesting apology of sorts in the Seven Samurai:

Quote

Kikuchiyo: What do you think of farmers? You think they're saints? Hah! They're foxy beasts! They say, "We've got no rice, we've no wheat. We've got nothing!" But they have! They have everything! Dig under the floors! Or search the barns! You'll find plenty! Beans, salt, rice, sake! Look in the valleys, they've got hidden warehouses! They pose as saints but are full of lies! If they smell a battle, they hunt the defeated! They're nothing but stingy, greedy, blubbering, foxy, and mean! ******** it all! But then who made them such beasts? You did! You samurai did it! You burn their villages! Destroy their farms! Steal their food! Force them to labour! Take their women! And kill them if they resist! So what should farmers do?

It is the warmongering fools who destroy the IS and the Clans are only a further perversion of this immense failure of humanity.

Worse they actually delude themselves into thinking they are "saving" the poor civilians.
