I would seriously like to know if there are plans in the future to allow the groups to select the maps they want to play.

In the last 65 drops, I've had an over abundance of River City and Caustic, only getting Alpine Peaks 3 times.

Will there be anything implemented in the future? Match making is (in my opinion) horrible, but if we could at the VERY LEAST select the map we play on, it would be great.

As long as people cannot change their mech config otherwise everyone will take the most brutal mech for the map and it becomes a little stagnant and samey

The closest you will probably get is in CW where if you are attacking an ice planet you get one of the snow maps.

I don't think selecting maps is a good idea. Puts us right back to the realm of super specialized mechs.

However I would like to see the ability to exclude a map type, ie, no city maps, or none of the "biggest" maps. If I'm in a brawler, I would want to avoid Alpine, where a LRM boat might want to avoid River City.

That being said, being forced to fight out of your mechs specialty about 15-20% of the time will make you a better pilot, Variety is the spice of life and all.

Being properly prepared is not what they do in future war?

if they did the splat cats would have noone to pick on anymore because everyone would go to alpine.

Not in Battletech, no. If by 'prepared' you mean pilots reconfiguring their 'Mechs before missions. Not unless you're driving an Omni-Mech.

Indeed,

Since we can customise our mechs so easily random maps at least brings back that idea that your mech might be deployed somewhere before you can have a chance to modify it.\

So specilists mechs are still fine but something you need to play really careful if the terrain is against you.

Hopefully more balanced builds make a comeback ;)

So in the future, say 3050, wars were taking place without any mission briefings or mech configs?...

Basically war becomes, say, tarded?

No, it's more the fact that in BT modifying a battlemech was a hug undertaking. Most mech would never get refitted for specific environments. If you were assigned an energy boat and then your unit was deployed to a high temperature battlefield, you wouldn't be able to change mechs or heavily change your loadout. Random maps pretty brings that into game despite our ability to have so many mechs and modify them so easily.

Kind of yes. After the great decline of technology.

Mission breiflings - oh yes they have those. Mech configs, no. Battlemechs are incredibly difficult to modify in the lore so you had to have a mix of weapons systems on mechs to account for the fact you might be fighting in conditions you do not have time or money to prepare for.

However, militaries would be able to choose to send in mechs that excelled at certain duties if they knew ahead of time the mission and terrain.

The issue here is each players account is stacked with heaps and heaps of mechs the envy of entire companies of mercenaries so there are no economy and logically driven limitations in MWO to account for that.

I believe that a dropship mode will cater to this being able to take 4 mechs into a drop and selecting them as you need them - but the total ability to choose exactly what you want for each mission was reserved for clan omnimechs which gave them a huge advantage over the Inner Sphere.

Now - if you say i am a TT grognard or whatever, this is a game based on battletech with much more customisation because that is heaps of fun - but if you allow people to change thier loadouts on the fly AND know the map you are coming into you will kill a lot of diversity and the intentions of the lore behind this entire game.

Customisation but not being able to outfit before you know the exact terrain - that at least simulates the idea you have customised your mech weeks or months ago and now it is action time and there is nothing you can do about it anymore.

It works quite well to allow customisation but not let people treat all mechs as omnimechs

It would be nice, though i doubt feasible, to favorite one map for 20% greater rotation and to thumbs down another<river city night> for 20 % less rotation..
Picking maps leads to many problems.. If I didnt have to play river city night 20 % less of the time,,, i would be a very happy camper.. That map just makes me mad..
Its the anti planetside 2 night experience.

I don't know how I feel about picking maps. Like others said people could pick a small map and run splat cats, or they pick Alpine and run LRM boats. With map variety you can't just prepare for one range otherwise you will lose out on some occasions. This means everyone should bring an array of weaponry for all ranges, therefore boating weapons is less viable. If you are a brawler bring a few LRM's, it's not like you have to be at 1000 meters to use them.

I think we need to be able to pick what mech we use after we see what map we are dropping in to.

See map= choose Mech= Drop!

Well thank you Noth. I had no idea that BT lore was written in such a way.

I appreciate your input.

By the way, this means that MW2, MW3, MW4 were all going against BT lore?...I remember there being server browsers.

I hope not, you should be building your mechs for all circumstances, not just close quarters combat situations.

No MW game is canon. Further this is a different game and is doing a lot of things different than the other MW games.
