Can someone explain why I get insulted, swore at, degraded or talked to in a way that is sub human even If I am fulfilling my role? I recently discovered the awesomeness that is the spider and was getting barked at because I was not scoring obscene damage. It didnt help that the commentary was coming from an ecm atlas who was actively running away from the front line to fire lrm's.

So my question is, how much damage is a spider supposed to do during a match?

It takes 36 damage to destroy a full armored mech cockpit so 8 mechs x 36 damage = 288 minimum.

No one gets a free pass on their damage count because of their Chassis. Spiders are expected to do as much damage as RVN-3Ls and JR7-Ds because they fill the same role.

Obviously, they generally can't, which is why the overall sentiment is that Spiders are terrible.

There is NO minimum damage you should do. Depending on the game and/or your role you can be more useful to your team while doing 0 damage (for example by tagging enemies or capping points or providing data about the enemies movements) then someone doing loads of damage spread out over several zones of a couple of mechs.

There is more to winning and losing then damage dealt. There are intangible factors that can't be properly scored. I've seen a light mech disrupt enemy lines so when our attack hit the enemy team was all out of position and easily killed. But you can't have a computer account for that.

Why are these threads popping up. I don't see any bad language in games. In fact hardly anyone chats during the games. I must think if you are getting flamed at, you must have started it by talking some crap first yourself.

Honestly... flip them the bird. Also stop reading the chat, nothing really good is ever said in it any way.

The short of it is that there are always people looking to blame their own shortcomings or bruised egos on others. 9/10 they are wrong or just plain ignorant. Just relax and be secure in the fact that nobody has any right to tell you how to play the the game... They will try but in the end it just make them look bad.

I generally don't pay much attention to damage for lights. I don't think very highly of the spider myself, but if you're doing something useful in the match like capping capture points and locking targets for the friendly LRMs while annoying the enemy, it's all good in my book. But yeah, you might like your spider, but expect to get grief for playing it. It sucks, but at least the people running in Raven-3L's are getting just as much, or more abuse than you are. lol

The problem here is that you're trying to play a somewhat competitive multiplayer game on the internet. You'll always encounter certain levels of septic commentary when trying to play this type of game. On top of that, many of the fans of this particular franchise are very very passionate and enthusiastic and won't think twice about pouring their opinions onto you, however vile they might be.

So, you just need to relax and not thing much about what people say. Do whatever you have fun doing in the game and you'll be fine...and be glad we're not a DotA style MOBA game 'cause then it would be SO much worse >_>

This, I think, is the crux of the issue. Unless you're winning by capping, or, I suppose, spotting for LRMs a LOT, everyone's job is the same - shoot the guys on the other team until they blow up.

My personal bench mark (as a medium mech driver, not that I necessarily believe that bigger mechs have an edge when it comes to putting damage on the board) is that <200 is bad and >400 is good.

I pilot a spider, a lot. Most of the playerbase is fixated on damage and destruction of enemy mechs. Fair enough in a space robots combat game. HOWEVER, damage is a pretty useless stat for lights. Right now is a weird time with the RVN-3L assault light being the big damage dealer on the block. The Jenner is a bit of a different story, but that is also armed to the teeth for a light.

The spider is a different animal. Right now the only variant that is even viable is the 5D, and that just barely. You need to be GOOD to get 200+ in a match. Until PGI fixes role warfare to include a viable role for the light chassis (and I have doubts about this) Spider-friends like us need to just filter out the noise. Oh, and ignore the Assault pilots in general. They will never know the pain of leveling 3 variants of light to unlock elite, 2 of which suck monkey shnutz. They just roll in their XP and CB for kills/component destruction like scrooge mc duck. In reality, they should be grateful that there are less cravin aficionados!

I can't help but agreeing. I mean it could obviously have been a streak of bad luck or something but personally I haven't seen any flaming or so for the 100 games or something (aside from the occasional "******* 3L").

It's a trade off, see? You can either play a mech that is fun to pilot like the Spider or an effective one that makes you feel like a scumbag such as the Raven. That's called 'balance'! ;)

If you contribute to a win, you did OK in my book. If you immediately rush over the ridge alone in your Awesome on Frozen City and get pummeled without firing a shot, you did bad.

Damage is overrated, I've seen Atlai ***** rounds all over, get 800 damage, no kills, hit their teammates with half the rounds, and ***** they did all the lifting and having ****** teamnates after getting killed. They were worthless for not focusing their fire on something and being a giant target.

Some of the best light pilots I've seen got 100 damage and caused all sorts of chaos running around the other team while we picked em off.

Well, no, there are - they're just not common situations. I would be prepared to argue that every build that is constructed without damage-dealing in mind is bad, but that not every time a pilot ends a match with low damage done, they have performed poorly.

I am assuming that this is to my first sentence?

So positioning and tactics mean nothing? Sorry, but I disagree. Without them there would be no opportunity to deal damage.
