how many queues are there goning to be now?

5 houses (how get all house matching), 3 regional servers, pug/premade ? That is a lot.

and MM is supposed to now account for ELO, weight, and limit you to houses too? Good luck.

Yay! An interview where the questions were actually prepared and the interviewer knew something about the game.

no "Awesome" (Read: Why do men like giant stomping death machines? WHY?)

The response time on such difficult questions is just amazing. There must be sorcery involved.

Can't view the video from work... but really a queue for each house... MY GOD.

Let me work this out...

3 Vision queues (3PV 1PV Mix)

4 game modes (assault, Conquest they talk about adding game modes in previous interviews)

5 House queues

2 Team size queues (8 man vs 4 man)

3 Region queues

360 queues.....

Aha hahaha... haaa

Factor in the need for Elo and weight match making and I can see this ending well!

Edit: Much sadness...

I liked the part where Ekman called the community the canary bird when it comes to balance. So when the community dies, then PGI reacts. I don't think he thought that metafore through :D.

I think/hope what he meant is when the community abandons a mech or weapons system the "canary dies" and they know there is a problem.

Funny how he mentions they were at one point patching on a "weekly" basis. Pretty sure they only hit that once or twice and then everything else got delayed for two weeks or longer.

It's too much away from lore/canon/TT. In the battletech universe it takes approx. 15min to repair one point of armor.
We had this topic a lot of times and most agree that we don't need it/don't want it.

I don't like it either.
Still this is not the topic here.
Please stay on topic.

Mana potions made of magical pixie dust isn't canon/lore/TT either. I think this argument is essentially useless at this point.

It's a much more revealing interview than the previous one.

Here is the summary of the CW information discussed in Brian's section of the interview:

Factions
  • Fight for ownership of Fronts instead of specific planets.
    • Home Front
    • Opposing Front
    • Ownership flips back and forth through winning combat drops
    • House vs House
  • Faction wide bonuses for winning/owning Fronts
    • Passive Benefits for ownership
      • EXP bonus
      • New item(s)
      • Access to new technology
  • Membership in House or Famous Unit
  • Work your way up the ranks of the Faction
Merc Corps (Guild Players)
  • The group names it
  • Create your own ranks
  • Fights for a specific system (a single planet)
    • Schedules battles with other Merc Corps for planetary ownership
    • Occupation rights for winning/owning
      • Income benefits
      • Items
      • New Mechs
  • Can form Companies and Lances

TL;DNW summary for the lazy:

Russ does part 1:
+Been 6 months since Open Beta, have done a lot
-new mech, hero mech every month
-new map every few months
-new simplified mechlab that helps newbies through the complex BT rules
-new user experience greatly improved (testing grounds, new user controls, etc)
+Moving to 1.0 launch Late Summer 2013
+Three main features they are pushing in media now
+12v12 in next 60 days (after GDC - so 45 days or so now)
+User Interface 2.0
-achievements
-new user breadcrumbs
-complete revamp
+Community Warfare is coming for launch
-faction based gameplay - join a house, join a merc corps, play a lone wolf
-earn loyalty points in a house
-battle over possession of a planet, which gives in-game benefits
-will add new level of depth

Bryan does Part 2:
+CW will be the meta game over the match play
+Do play-now if a lone wolf (game as it is now essentially)
+Can join a faction - join a house without needing to worry about joining a guild, meet times, etc
-Gain passive boosts
-Your matches will help determine the game map
+Guilds
-your own ranks, your own name, companies, and lances
-fight for specific systems
-schedule matches against other merc corps for planet possession
-winning gives you occupation rights
-occupation rights give you access to income, items, mechs (and change the map)
+New Lobby system
-jump into a pre-lobby where they can bring up to 4 mechs
-customize the mech (camo spec, mech used)
-vote on the next map (cold, hot, etc)
-can tailor the mechs on your dropship before the map this way
-map will be available in the lobby (full screen), so you can pre-setup lances
+Will now have Lance Commanders (3) as well as Company Commander
+Commanders will be given rewards, and team members will be given rewards for following (XP + CBill)
+Factions fight for fronts, not specific systems
-House vs House
-Results will help flip a front
-Front control give passive bonus (tech, mech, xp)

+Looking for a balance between players saying "its good" and "its bad" on weapons
+They look for topics that come up a lot for things to be addressed (though not necessarily how community wants)
+ECM is example
-they see the issue is that the mechs are invulnerable

+Working on joystick control
+E3 prototype was ambitious, still playing around with it

+Looking at Steam, and have discussed with them
+No official word, still evaluating

+Working on other regions/local servers
+Have not decided how it will work
+Trying to avoid IP Blocking, forced servers, sharding... but it may come to that - still working on it
+Look for final word in next few months

+Occulus Rift looks cool, nothing official - just started looking at it
+Taking their time with all peripherals before integration

Passive buffs are the same path Planetside 2 took, at least for now.

For all we know, every house is fighting all the other houses on many "fronts" , you may even be able to choose which front you would "prefer" to effect.

From that, the MM has the normal pool of players basically (all the houses + lonewolves + possibly mercs who align with a house but are dropping solo at the time), it just has to wait until enough of each house clicks launch to fill each of the battles for each of the different fronts......if you get me..... :D (its still going to increase the time unless we get a big influx of players........launch.....clans......its possible.)

For 8v8 (12v12) queues it will probably be a little harder than now to find a match im guessing, at least if there is a lot of mixed house 8mans atm.

Not enough info about how it all works to come to any real conclusion.

That won't stop certain people from doomcalling over their own speculated queue ideas unfortunately.

You know what I see? I see a lot of opportunities for goons to grief the hell out of CW.

Also, the confusing approach to regional servers. The direct opposite of the approach that should be taken (allowing people to join whichever server they prefer each time they load the game, so they can opt to play with friends at the expense of a higher ping if they happen to be further away from the server their friends play on, or join a local server when not playing with geographically-distant friends). Why is this so hard to grasp or to implement? Accounts should sync across all servers.

They appear to be hell-bent on splitting the community in so many ways all while using a matchmaking system that only works well when the pools are few and large. Many small pools will be the death of the game if they keep the matchmaker schema. This is why they're forced to leave us with only two game modes. But instead of prioritizing splits for important things like game modes, they're going to waste community splits on things like 3PV or Factions. That's going to hurt the matchmaking in a big way unless they are planning to ditch the matchmaker for everything outside of LoneWolf play and provide proper lobby system for all metagame play. In which case the poor Lonewolves will have an even worse experience. That's not a great way to get people into the metagame (by giving them a bad experience outside of it). But we'll see what happens...

Organized team games take longer than usual in just about any game. Why wouldn't it? It has more variables to search for. Matches are always found in under 9 seconds for me as a pugger.

Besides, it's not like the current MM system is in its final implementation right now.

Hm maybe not, a 12vs12 is 1 and a half game of what we have now, so for each three games we have now, we would have two under 12 vs 12.

Given that most players will by chance stay lone wolf, (most people i see are lone wolf) because they really dont care about much more then jumping into a match or two in the evening, i think matches will still be filled up fast
