What happens in battle when you die?

Are you stuck in observer mode?
Can you drop out of battle and play in a new match in another mech from your mech bay?
I really hope we don't get stuck in observer mode as time is precious.

This is the only way to grind credits in WoT. Play a match die, roll a new tank. So perhaps we will be using a similar strategy in MWO, HOWEVER, you only get 1 starter mech right? In WoT people start with 5 tanks to begin.
So you may be locked into 1 match at a go for a while.

And please don't make those heavy mechs too expensive.

You loose your mech, deal with it.

This assumes you will play the same people in the next round. Lets hope not.

I hope they dont do WoT nonsense...i really hatted that thing. If you would end up stuck after death in the match, that would make people think more, use tactics and stuffs
I disagree. I believe it will make them quit and play a different game where they are not stuck waiting for 15 min for making a mistake. Since players quitting is not something the Devs want, I don't believe it will work that way.

Seriously - Anything is better than observer mode.

Death = wait/spectator mode, repair bill, xp at end of match.
Exit = bad, no XP for leaving, and gaining repair bill.
I believe it was an interview that covered it (will look) (i'm sick, can't sleep anyway)
Edit, found in Q&A 3.....
[DAVID] There will be no free roaming spectator mode. Dead players will likely see their destroyed ’Mech for a few seconds and then be able to cycle through the viewpoints of their living allies.
[BRYAN] We’re very aware and concerned about spectator mode giving teams using Teamspeak like communications and advantage. More than likely we only allow spectators to view what the current target view (pilot) can see.
There are a couple of "likely"s in there so I guess it isn't writen in stone yet lol
Edit 2. found in Q&A 2
[MATT C] No special concessions can be made for disconnects or severe lag, if a team loses a match due to these factors then it’s just bad luck. Anything we could add to detect these conditions and declare the match void opens the door to worse exploits where players purposefully disconnect to void match results when they are losing. These situations are very hard to deal with as a disconnect from lag looks identical to an intentional cable pull. All players in a match when it ends will get the match rewards, disconnected players will not gain any progression as rewards are handed out at the end of a match.
So XP is at end of match, exit = bad
Although that was dec of 11 so they might have changed it, but probably not

1) Loiter on the battlefield as a ghost ... I'd prefer a 3rd person view for this. To really contrast the feel of it.
2) To return to the mechbay and join another match. (It has yet to be confirmed also if your mech will be locked until the end of the battle ala WoT or if you can just join a new fight.)

As far as I can recall, I remember the developers saying that there were two modes they were experimenting with: one where you have only one life and one where you have three mechs and when you die you can hotdrop a new mech down to the battlefield (I honestly can't remember the source for this, so don't quote me on that). My hope is that matches won't take too long or this might be an issue.
Bring a book and put it next to your PC, and then read it when you die. It's what I'll do if I can't just quit and join a new game.
