They are temp fixes but they are not going too solve the problem. When a nerf or buff happens people can just switch what ever weapon they want or engine with no thought too how that mech or variant of that mech was created too be used. Which is why it makes 2/3 of the mechs obsolete in comp play cause now you have just a handful of mechs that can do the same jobs as other mechs. I mean sure its fun too build stuff but in a balanced game world its just asking for balance problems. MWLL mech lab was going too be based on a slot system where it would be like you have a med laser in that arm so only SL,SPL,ML or MPL could fit there but you have a AC 20 so now you can fit a large AC weapon and so on.

To be honest, TT had no balance as well. There were comp lists for each BV level, and you ran those if you wanted to be competitive. No one would run the Summoner 1, when they could run the Summoner 2.

In competitive play, you can't have all mechs be viable. I have NEVER seen a game where all options were viable, in competitive play.

But that is Table top for the game you can change it. MWLL changed a few of the lore based things for balance and it worked out well. It can be done but purely going TT is not the way too do it.

example the ECM system in MWLL

GECM protects only your battle mech

AECM protects the mechs around you but not yourself.

MWLL cause the tech is based in 3068 and they reworked a lot of the assets changing things from lore for better balance each chassis or tank unit has its place in the field with 1 or 2 being an exception cause those were never fully finished. Also being 3068 Clans and IS began too level the playing field in terms of tech and weapons.

I'm against going purely TT. The rules don't work. It's like thinking you can Tango, because you learned the Texas Two Step.

However, my point still stands: There are no examples of a game where all options where viable in competitive play. Something always has to lose out to something else.

(Modification: Games like Chess don't count, where there is no variety. Removing all mechs, and keeping only the HBK-4P with only it's stock loadout is not really balanced competitive play)

Maybe not all but starting with a more restrictive mechlab will sure help in a long way of course comp will always be comp its in every game but for those who don't comp it can provide a greater variety in the field.

Its a fun idea too throw in this and that tech into any mech but It kinda killed the reason for different variants Since now we could just move the same build but better onto the other variant. MWO can really go a long way too help the balance simply but making a mechlab that customizes each variant but keeps it in the role that variant was build too do.

They also changed practically all of the weapons ranges until the distinctions between weapon classes were heavily blurred. Not sure how well that would have gone over.

Works Fine from what people say I don't have a problem with the added range.

Pretty easy too distinguish ranges

light Gauss 1200m

Gauss 900m

Heavy Gauss 700m

I wish PGI made maps like that, so many features and variety that MWO lacks. Honestly, hire the MWLL guys and let them do their thing.
