Doubt it.

Beyond the Hellbringer and the Mad dog, I really don't see anyone wanting gold mechs for the other chassis'.

And with the Mad Dog being behind a rewards program, if they offered it up for 500 bucks with no pre-requisite to buy the previous pack, you will see MANY up in arms that the only way you can "buy your way" into one is to buy it for 500 bucks.

Might be tempting though if they brought the price down to 250 though (since your only getting half the mechs compared to the other pack.)

Edit rescinded comment. Too defensive on my part (I blame being called a fool all day in the other thread..), and you are obviously already aware :)

I´d say it is not very likley, it was a PR move that has pretty much played out it´s role.

Not saying they will not sell some kind of gold skin inthe MC store at some point otoh. But it will not be the same as the Khan skin.

It didn't generate any good kind of PR.

Question becomes, did it generate enough revenue to justify the negative PR.

That was pretty much an IGP venture.

Did it make enough money to justify? Yes it did.

Still not sure if we will ever see them again or not - no discussion on it internally .

I'm glad to hear that was an IGP issue. I had serious misgivings about it (exploiting the beloved BT franchise, that whole thing). I think it's funny that, although I do see some suspect shiny Clanners out there, I've only seen a couple actually sport the gold color.

And my dreams of a gold Atlas are dashed. :(

Speaking for myself, (Full disclosure, I picked up a gold mech,) I really don't see the harm in it. As it was brought up tons of times, many other games do something similar, you don't get any "advantage" for it, the fact that they are super rare to see in the field, and also the fears that they would just be team kill magnets where pretty overblown. (I've never been TK'ed in mine.)

I'm no better or worse of a pilot for it, The people that do field the gold mechs don't rub it in other peoples faces at every turn (a fear going into it,) and really, its more of a "draw back" to have in game given how much you stand out on the battlefield.

If it makes you guys money to justify its existence, I say do it. As its just another revenue stream to support the further development of the game, and unlike many of the other freemium trappings, it solely targets the whales, while everyone else can play with literally no harm done to them.

Most of the rage that revolved around the gold mechs was that it was a money grab that you HAD to buy into, which I think we can all agree now that the dust has settled on this entire matter is something that is patently false. I'm no better or worse of a pilot just because I have a gold mech, I'm not getting on game chat and mouthing off about it, it was solely a purchase for me because I enjoyed the game and wanted to have it.

So by all means, make your money. Especially if its on things that carry pretty much zero impact on the actual game-play.

It's possible to make something that 'makes money,' but in the process costs you lots more money thanks to bad word of mouth.

When Forbes is mocking your gold robots, well...

It was your choice to spread that bad word of mouth. The gold mechs didn't actually tangibly hurt you one bit.

They are "basically" a reskin, so maybe a prize for a tournament or something?

When an independent writer who posted to Forbes posts pretty much a "hit job" article based more on the "rage" around the forums then any tangible reality of the actual situation does the same thing.

I fail to see how offering a gold mech pack for 500 is any different from:

Offering a ship model only available in a 15k limited quantaty package (the other model being only available in a 5k package.)

Having a million dollar version of your game. (Something that Forbes itself was hypocritically all over.)

Or many other high tier packages offered through other F2P style games.

Not to mention that Forbes more often then not LOVES, talking, about it.

Which is why its a bit hypocritical of them to slam a buisness model that they not only guss over, but one that they have went to bat for on other games that are MUCH more steep then the gold mechs ever where.

If its not a good value to you, simply don't get it.

So just because one game takes the first step and some others follow, now it's okay to push 500 dollar gold deals? You're acting like the other games there don't get routinely panned for their decision.

I'm trying to think of a reason I'd care what Forbes thinks of my or anyone else's gaming decisions and I can't come up with one.

I want to point out that the real stink about the gold mechs was that they were first advertised with an extra module slot over regular versions.

Let's not forget how much bad press this game has gotten overall.

1. From first release: 8 man premade vs 8 man random stomps
2. Ecm
3. PPC debacle
4. Implementation of hand holding Elo
5. Consumables uproar
6. Gold mechs (with extra pay to win module slot which was thankfully removed)
7. Clan mech imbalance (left in game as massively pay to win for too long)

During most of the game's cycle it has had really really bad PR if you stopped to read the forums.

Yea the freebies are a nice touch. But I still don't want to play this game.

But I really want to want to play this game.
