In all cases you know, that this player will most likely underperform. And, therefore, when you see, that the whole your team looks like this and when you're losing again, again and again due to this - then something is definitely wrong with MM.
Ain't you a mad guy.
Imma start dropping in every single trial mech this weekend. Right. Hey I like olive darb colors ok?
Then people will start saying how op my trials with sexy green paint all over it and people in their rich hellbringers with neon pink colors will put on green cause they jelly.

I dunno, bright Orange Stalker draws more fire than the Dire beside it in olive.

2 Whale standing side by side. 1 Gold and 1 default colors. Both are primes. How do you tell which one is the newer guy in the trial whale, and which one actually plays the game a decent amount?
2 stalkers, one is white, the other is black. You are in a side area of Terra Therma, both are not moving at the moment. which one do you notice first?
2 Atlases, 1 painted with a skeleton pattern, bright red, and neon blue colors. the other is a default green. both equal distance, same loadout. which one do you assume is more skilled and thus more of a threat to you?

None of which are that bad.
I own and use all of them.
Hell, Basic Red is imo one of the better reds available.
The Basic Orange is pretty decent too, and the Basic Blue is a solid mid-blue.
Plus it remains true, that players in Basic / Default Green are viewed as newer / less skilled than those with colours.
This is in part that players with colours / camo will generally have played enough to decide to put money in (or ground out the c-bills for 1-2 Basic Colours).
And it's mostly due to the fact that players with colours / camo will almost always have played longer than those without.
There'll be outliers that have played as much with basic green mechs, but as a general rule the above does hold.
Being Basic Green can be a double edged sword - either you'll be targetted first (seen as an easy target), or ignored (seen as a low priority target, less dangerous than others).

Why?
I'm lazy, and until I like a mech enough to make an effort to make it pretty, I don't bother.
So, really, stock camo means nothing.

If they did not make it a $10 exercise to paint your mech, maybe more people would buy into it?
How about for $1, you can put any camo/paint on your single mech? I got 40 mechs, that's decent monetization IMHO
there are colors for cbills you know

Inside of 500 meters, the camo doesn't matter a bit - you're usually fighting for your life.
Tell me why cool paint jobs matter besides the "check me out" status at spawn?

1 - The renderer draws ALL mechs in this game grey past ~100m.
ALL MECHS, ALL COLORS. Red green blue orange white fuscia mauve lime lemon brown pink cyan purple pokka dot... -> GREY
2 - See #1 (don't believe me, go try it for yourself. all colors transition to grey as you open the distance)
3 - Paint your mech whatever the heck color you want because IT WON'T MATTER in game. If you think it does you need to spend more time improving your driving and shooting, because your suckage has been noted by the OP.

Anyone who thinks color actually camouflages you in mwo doesn't pay enough attention. The distances in which you can see the colors are so short that it's totally irrelevant.

~.~ I only buy camo with leftovers of mech purchases. So far this netted me 2 camos and I hesitate to buy more. Especially colors are pretty expensive imo. Most camo look **** too. Permanent camo is a rip-off..I bought a whole clan wave 2, a Stormcrow a la carte, 3 heroes... What the heck?
