So I've fiddled around a bit with my UrbanMechs, trying to more or less mimic the original loadouts without making them...suck. Except for the collector's edition special R63, since it has that moneymaking buff I decided to make as good as it can get.

And I came up with this:

And turns out it...actually works. More or less.

EDIT:

Finally recorded some full matches when I didn't go full Leeroy and fought with a rough resemblance of caution. Builds and videos are below:

So, what are they like? I am skeptical about dropping $$ on any more mediocre mechs.

Considering the tonnage, I'd say they're arguably better than Locust. JJ is great as usual, and because of that you don't have to worry about terrain that much and can travel a lot sneakier.

Yeah, I agree. The stock loadouts are good to run a few times for the lolz, but once you set it up for real it isn't bad at all. The high mounted hardpoints are what saves it, and the diminuitive size.

even if you have a lot of skill, patience, and an in-depth understanding of the maps and tactics in general, most mechs will insta-kill you with an alpha the minute they see you.

I just recorded what might be the most glorious Urbie action. Uploading now.

Have you watched the video of the Urbie? Its far FAR more maneuverable then the cutefox. Sure it's not exactly blazing in speed, but how he can jump around and maneuver in and out of cover is far more then the kitfox can do .

Well managed to basic up 1st Urbie Yesterday... (2xLPL with max engine)
I'd say it has pretty good hitboxes, as long as you are not standing still/shutdown it can tank decently for it's tonnage.
Weapon placement is good so doesn't have to expose too much to shoot.
360 twist is hilarious... one firestarter tried to circle trololol me with not that great success, it was most likely harder to get out of my sight/behind me than he first thought :D

So people are comparing cutefox to it, well yeah cutefox can pack more weapons but will run hotter because it's clanner and doesn't have any quirks (and no I would not want to fight against streakfox that would be loss by default most likely) but hitbox, weapon placement, 360 and quirks matter that much that I feel urbie can be better than cutefox

The Urbie is really a Mini-Blackjack (Micro-Jaeger?). If you think of it that way, you'll have no trouble finding a role for it on the battlefield.

Was also surprised to find that I really like the Urbie and it's not awful.

So far I've done Triple LL and Dual LPL, both with great success.
Energy builds are key, no point in having an AC20 with limited ammo and range when you can have 2x LPL. UAC5 might be ok, but every other autocannon I'd imagine, is pretty dull.

360 torso twist takes some getting used to, but it actually very useful for getting that extra shot in as you run away, or spreading damage a little bit.

The AC20 is impossible to run with an XL unless you stick with standard heat sinks, which will be dismal. I've been running one with a UAC5 + 2xML, XL170, been having quite a bit of fun. I have another that I'm bouncing between an AC10 + 2xSL and an LBX-10 with 2xSL. The LBX version gets two JJs with the extra ton while the AC10 has no JJ, both run an XL170. A bit torn on this one currently, TBH, the JJs really enhance survivability but the AC10 allows me to fight further away. Have to run some more matches and test this out.

Following dog breed conventions, the Blackjack is Miniature Jager and the Urbanmech is a Toy Jager :P

Any build you put machine guns on doesn't qualify for being called "not terrible".

The 360 torso twist in a couple of situations is a killer.
Get a light to chase you, you running away at full forward speed while all your weapon can bear on the mech chasing you. Practice this in testing grounds driving by min map while targeting behind you. Not as hard as it seems if you can pat your head and rub your belly. Finally a mech that makes joystick a plus.

Being bait.
While flanking get about 500 m ahead of the other flankers. Hit the closest mech. Get him to chase you. Yep running full speed tword your backup while keeping all guns (and armor) on them once you meet up with the others, center legs to torso fly pass and hit them from behind. Cutting off retreat. Me and a direwolf got 4 this way in the canyon.

The urbie should be a rear gun for assaults... ...and teams that do not know how to avoid being flanked..
