You know, I really want to see what happens if capping the base increase your payout three-fold.

Maybe then, people will actually actively defend/attack the objective.

I don't whine about Assault I simply dont play it. Unchecked it right away, have fun with no players around in assault capping idiots. I dont queue to stand in a square.

It's been really weird, but I never unchecked Assault, yet everyone else must have, because for the past...I don't even know how many hours at this point...5, 6? I have gotten nothing but Skirmish...I think a Conquest or two.

Earlier today/yesterday I was getting mostly Assault with all 3 checked.

I swear it's not my fault...I didn't ever suggest not playing the mode at all..and I'm personally still trying, whether I find it optimal or not. I didn't break Assault...But maybe Assault broke the players?

Very eerie.

My favorite exploit of this is to send one or two ECM lights to cap and then run around as the entire team abandons the line.

Had a great assault match the other day on forest colony. We had tangled with the enemy team in the usual place. We knock out six of theirs, they knocked out six of ours. Somehow in all of this the six we didn't knock out had decided to run for our base and sit there. So we start running back, I'm in a cataphract with luckily a std 320 in it so run at 81.5kph otherwise I would never have made it. I slide to halt on the base with almost none of our cap bar left visible, must have been a second from loss, followed closely by the remainder of our team.

We then lay into the remaining enemy and destroy them, I forget how many of ours they got in those last moments but it was a glorious way to end a match, hectic, frantic, and all around awesome. I just had to say eat it cappers to them, but only because we stopped it so close to the end. Had they succeeded I would have had to congratulate them on a well played strat.

When I think of my greatest MWO matches, so many are like that, and almost all are on assault. I'll take 5 straight up caps if I get even one magnificent nail biting down to the wire win... or loss.

I just love that there's more than one dimension to assault.

We were down 6-9 on one fight, so I sent two heavily damaged lights back to base to cap while I GLORIOUSLY sacrificed myself in an attempt to hold the rest of the enemy off. I managed to finish 4 of them off in a spectacular and brutal battle before I fell. The last two of theirs charged the last of ours, and we won on cap with our one remaining light earning the achievement for low health - he finished on 6% with the enemy mech about a meter from entering the box. It was fantastic.

You know what I wish? That the result of a cap was something spectacular. It doesn't have to add anything gameplay wise, i'd just like... well, some spectacle.

Now, a match ends abruptly because you stood in a box. What if the payoff for that was an orbital cannon powering up and blowing a dropship to smithereens? Or the powering up of an anti air battery so civilian escape ships could lift off? Or the opening of a city gate to let a flood of friendly mechs in? Or, shutting down a mass enemy ECM blanket, which allows friendly aerospace to do strafing runs? We already have code for dropships firing, imagine if a swarm of Thunderbirds swooping down on your enemy.

Assault is great - much better than skirmish - when the cap is used strategically.

Unfortunately, there are too many trolls (or maybe they are just clueless idiots) who march straight to the cap and make the win 'worthless' in the sense that the rewards end up being so low for their team. I particularly dislike when my 2XP bonus for the day is wasted because an entire lance walked to the cap without giving the rest of us a chance to rack up any points.

While the turrets had their issues on some maps, the mode needs something more than it has at the moment.
