OK guys, in the league that I was in, you had the ability to Hot Drop, (ie jump out your dropship at so many meters, directly into a firefight below). I was actually a company commander of a unit in the Wolf's Dragoons, we called ourselves Hell Jumpers. It sounds crazy, but a lot of the times, people wouldn't expect it, and since were going to be doing a lot of city fighting, this makes it perfect for something like this.

yeah I'm all for it. I could just see it, your enemy thinks he has you on the ropes and then boom! Reinforcements drop from a friendly drop ship to turn the tide of the fight!

There is not enough THIS on the internet to express my desire for hot drops and orbital jumps.

You need one more option: if the situation warrants it. I actually have HALO (paratrooper) awards designed for AU, and they can be earned -I hope to work on that page today, by the way- by hot drops, so I'm not against the idea. However, I am also a believer that a relatively careful approach will save 'Mechs, pilots, and resources better utilized by said careful approach. If a mission calls for a hot drop, to confuse and weaken the enemy, to loosen them up and remove them from the map in the fastest, deadliest, most efficient way possible, I'm all for it.

I dont think Hot Drops should necessarily always be an option, but given the right circumstances (and prerequisites such as having a dropship available) it would be awesome to be able to do.

Great scenario that I can think of (would also require different deployment times for lances in a match) would be 2 companies facing off (3 lances each). Team A decides to throw all 3 lances out at once in the hopes of overwhelming their enemy, team 2 decides to be a bit more tactical, leading with only 2 lances and keeping 1 on standby in the dropship for reincforcements. Obviously there is both risk and reward in doing so, having less 'mechs means you may get into a situation where you are outnumbered and take some serious damage before reinforcements arrive (the hot drop wouldn't be instant in my opinion), but on the plus side you can get reinforcements much quicker than having another lance run to meet you and allows for a potentially quick capture of an objective if used in that manner.

I'm all for it, but what I'd really love would be a variety of scenarios. Hot drops would certainly be up there. However balance might be tricky. They'd have to ensure that it wasn't just a slaughterfest for the defenders.

As long as me and my unit's reserve lance of light and medium mechs can bail out of the dropship and into the firefight with "Shoot to Thrill" blasting from the dropship's transmitters so powerfully that it drowns out comms on every channel for 30 klicks, then I'm all for it. (Why, yes, I -am- an Iron Man fan...)

It's a good way to put heavy and assault jumpers on the spot you need them, fast. Definitely an useful and welcome tactical option...

Should only really be one option -"HELL YEAH!"

Could be especially intense, since it should be only way to retreat from a hot drop is fight your way out! Go down or eject? High risk of getting captured.

I'd actually like to see hot drops used for sending light and medium raiding parties down in rear areas, right on top of enemy supply depots. Drop the unit fast let em cause as much mayhem as possible and then with fairly fast units either head for a pick up point or just march them out into friendly territory.

I would NOT reccomend hot drops in heavily Urban terrain. in the battle of Mech vs Skyscraper, the Mech does not always win.

Are you kidding? For the chance to scream 'WE'RE ON AN EXPRESS ELEVATOR TO HELL, GOING DOWN!!!' as I'm being hot-dropped into the middle of combat?

Yes. Oh definitely yes.

I can't answer a question that has "should" in it for the simple reason we don't know yet the types of game mode and spawn mechanic that will be implemented in the end.

To be proper, your question should be more like "Pretending that joining a battle automatically involves a dropship, would you be in favor of hot-drops?"

And the choices should be more along the lines of:

Yes
No
I don't care

The current poll assumes something we don't know yet and then forces us to pick an option that is either all white or all black. That's not a good poll.
