Overview:
When the Taurian Concordat was finally able to put the new Double Heatsink
system into full scale production in 3052 and Ferro Fibrous armor in 3045, the
possibilities for new designs for the major power became limitless; and it was
with these two discoveries that the Taurian Defense Forces approached Brixtana
Battleworks in 3053 with the opportunity to put together a new high end line
mech that could now have the firepower and protection to take on what the
innersphere could offer.
By 3054 Brixtana Battleworks had put together the rough prototype of what would
be dubbed the Falchion named for an ancient European weapon that combined the
weight and power of an axe with the versatility of a sword, beffiting its
position as a true multi-role unit.
It wasnt until 3055 that the Magistracy Armed forces became interested in the
design, and helped fund the project; and when the testing was finished, the TDF
gave Brixtana Battleworks the green light for production, and allowed shipments
to go to both the MAF and TDF.
Capabilities:
Offensively the Falchion stands out on the modern Periphery battlefield, not
many designs fielded by the minor outlying nations of the Innersphere can truly
compete with the capabilities of the Falchion, and it carries more firepower
than any design currently in the inventory of either the Taurian Defense Forces
or the Magistracy Armed Forces. At long range pilots of the Falchion can engage
targets with its Holly LRM-15 Rack which carries enough ammo for 16 salvoes,
effectively softening the target up for the mid-short range punch of its paired
Sunglow Type 2 Large Lasers. To supplement the loss of firepower should the
opponent crowed the Falchion, a quartet of Martell Model 5 Medium Lasers can be
brought to bear. The energy heavy nature of the Falchion means that a pilot who
is conservative with his LRM ammo can stay in the fight for extended periods of
time making it a true asset especially out in the periphery.
From a defensive standpoint the Falchion is well protected, especially with the
12.5 tons of Durallex Heavy Ferro Fibrous armor allowing it to take a good bit
of punishment before failing. With its 120 meter jumping capacity, the Falchion
can handle rough terrain that would normally slow other designs down, providing
it that extra mobility that can either allow it to dodge fire, or if needed
retreat without getting bogged down.
It is also this mix of firepower and mobility that lends to its multi-role
capability, making it as effective in the open as it is in close range combat.
Variants:
Only one other factory configuration is offered by BBW, and that is the
Falchion 2A (often called the Talwar by its pilots) which swaps out the LRM 15
launcher and ammo for a Marklin SRM 6 Pack, and uses the extra weight to
upgrade the Sunglow Type 2 Large Lasers for a pair of Parti-Kill Heavy Cannon
PPCs; however in short range combat it should be noted that heat becomes a
serious problem with this configuration and its 13 double strength freezers can
easily be overwhelmed if the pilot is not careful.

NOTE: Durallex Heavy is the brand of Ferro Fibrous armor used by the design it is NOT Heavy Ferro. Just wanted to clarify that
