There should be a mayday button that, when pressed, will transmit a call for help to your team that includes your grid and/or coordinates.

If you disagree with this, please explain why.

As almost every suggestion I make leads to people telling me what I can do instead...I'm not interested.

could be collasped into a quick 'radio' mechanic- however VOIP is supposed to accommodate this already. I would not mind quick message options and stuff or the radio mechanic.

No thanks

1. Stick with the team and you wont need it.

2. Every idiot and his dog will be slamming the button as they start taking fire. Imagine the noise or map distortion that would come with that.

This would not be a good thing to have, IMO. The vast majority of time that you hear people screaming for help, it is because they ran out into the open with no plan and no support, and they want people who are actually fighting in concert to split up and come help them, rather than them joining back up with the group. If no one helps them, they die. If the team splits up to help them, everyone dies. Having a mayday button will only make the problem worse.

Everyone who comes under fire will hit it. Not a good idea. Like those times you feel the enemy team is somewhere becasuse of the fire you got from that direction and call it in chat to see half the team go there(yay for once) to nothing while the other half gets destroyed shortly after(that feels crappy).

I know it's a very lame excuse but i don;t want every body calling the shots. I try to talk in chat, not voip, as muc has i can and sometimes it does fkup the team. Very few people do that, give em a button and suddently you get multiple call all over the place. You need to use Q and look at the % of your team mate to see how they are doing, if they are under fire etc etc.

I think that this idea has possibilities. Something to explore at least and come up with something.

Had to vote No.

Reason: It could be abused.

I voted no. Too many players run off and rambo, then call for help. I would intentionally ignore mayday requests and allow the problem to self-correct. You'll never win a bicycle race if you don't take off the training wheels.

While I'm not contesting anyone's counterpoints as invalid, I think it worth mentioning that the guys running off into the wild, solo, in a meta TBR thinking they're bulletproof are not the only ones who would use it (though I do concede that they will mostly like be the most frequent users). It will also be used by the guy who happened to scout directly into a flanking lance covered by ECM. I believe wholeheartedly that it will be abused...but it will also be quite an aid.

Calling for help really shouldn't be a single, generic "Problem Light". If you want to do one push call outs, I would do a set of short sound files or text messages that are preset. "Yes", "No", "Taking Fire in <Grid>", Lurch from Adams Family sighing, the sound of a bunch of NASCARs going by, Bitching Betting telling you to "Get Gud". You know, the most common things you need to say, lol.

Personally I have been playing with macros and an SOS key for this purpose...the problem is that I still have to list coords or grid to make it easier to find me and, under fire, it's not easy to do.

You are not supposed to need help from the team if you arent close to them. If you are scouting a ping will be at the wrong place, if it isnt you probably died and a ping wont be enough to inform the team. If you arent scouting you shouldnt need to ping but do call grid in chat if needed. Either way, you arent supposed to call for help, but you definitely should keep an eye on your team and know what is going on.

At this point you try to escape with your life and regroup. You are the fast one presumably. Super secret SpecOps don't get to call the army when the shithitthefan.

I like this. The closest thing we have now is spamming the target key, which draws a lot of attention and tells allies where the enemies are -- rather than where you are when you need help.

can be like MW4's lance commands, augmenting current VOIP, stuff like "focus fire" and your associated target & it's grid.
or other movement/communication, maybe a tie in to lance and company command abilities.

i think a "cooldown" would be sufficient enough to deter spammers /griefers

this type of communication has proven itself useful in a few games, the first that comes to mind is chromehounds.

i'll see if i can dig up some screenshots.

Zudukai I think that is ideal. I think F1 is perfect for the "help" key, obviously, and the cooldown to prevent abuse is a novel idea...even along the lines of "one use per match". If someone would need to use such a key more than once per match then I dare say they are the exact person the naysayers are speaking of.

I could get behind the idea if it were limited to once per match.

Just call it a "distress beacon", that drops from the lower rear CT of the mech. About the size of a UAV, except it is brown and stays on the ground where it falls.
