My guess:

You will be forced to split a pile of skill points into the various weapon types. Putting points into a weapon type will have some minor quirk effect to buff the weapon (or, more cynically, the weapon will function crappier until you put points into it). You will not have enough points to max out every weapon line.

How would you you feel about such a rework?

Or, do you think something else is going to happen to the skill tree? If so, what?

Honestly, I think it'll probably step on the toes of the module system some. Things like decreased target acquisition speed and target retention increase as skill tree items. They might also have weapon-specific entries in there, but personally I very much hope they do not.

Also, it'll probably include different skill trees per weight class, so a light mech efficiency tree would be different from that of a heavy.

There are so many ways they can take it, and with zero information on it it's not really worth speculating about.

im hoping them give Skill Points that you Can Distribute,
lets assume in Leveling your Mech to Max you get 100Points

=0=Energy=0=
Energy Range= 1Point = +1%Range(20PointsMax)(20%Max)
Energy Cycle= 1Point = -1%Range(20PointsMax)(20%Max)
-
PPC Velocity= 1Points = +1%Velocity(20PointsMax)(20%Max)
Laser Duration= 1Points = -1%Duration(20PointsMax)(20%Max)

=0=Ballistic=0=
Ballistic Range= 1Point = +1%Range(20PointsMax)(20%Max)
Ballistic Cycle= 1Point = -1%Cycle(20PointsMax)(20%Max)
-
AC Velocity= 1Points = +1%Velocity(20PointsMax)(20%Max)
LBX Spread= 1Points = -1%Spread(20PointsMax)(20%Max)

=0=Missile=0=
Missile Range= 1Point = +1%Range(20PointsMax)(20%Max)
Missile Cycle= 1Point = -1%Cycle(20PointsMax)(20%Max)
-
Missile Velocity= 1Points = +1%Velocity(20PointsMax)(20%Max)
Missile Spread= 1Points = -1%Spread(20PointsMax)(20%Max)

=0=Engine=0=
Mech Acceleration= 1Point = +1%Acceleration(20PointsMax)(20%Max)
Mech Deceleration= 1Point = +1%Deceleration(20PointsMax)(20%Max)
-
Mech Max-Speed= 2Point = +1%Max-Speed(20PointsMax)(10%Max)
Mech Reverse-Speed= 1Point = +1%Reverse-Speed(30PointsMax)(30%Max)
-
STD Engine Armor= 2Point = +1CT-Structure(40PointsMax)(20Max)
XL Engine Armor= 2Point = +1ST-Structure(30PointsMax)(15Max)

but this Type of System would have to me Tweaked allot,
to avoid min Maxing of the System, so in not sure,

I would be very hesitant to combine weapon modules into the pilot skill tree unless you could respec for free whenever you wanted.

the only prediction i have:

there will be salt!

like if all the stuff i mastered looses its status and i have to regrind. il also be angry if i have to buy back garbage mechs to master the other mechs in my inventory. ive actually been totally against skill tree improvements beyond replacing pinpoint for something useful.

for me to accept it i would expect:

1. full refund on xp used to unlock the original tree skills, even for mechs that i no longer own
2. if a mech was previously mastered, it needs to be exempt from the 3 mech rule
3. it should cost the same amount of xp to master the mech in the new system as it did in the old system.
4. if it affects modules as well, i want gxp refunds for all those unlocks

If skill tree is renewed, I would also ask for one more thing: RESET SKILL TREE BUTTON

I have lots of surplus XPs on some of my mechs, and provided if the upcoming skill tree

reflects the difference between different mech roles as was requested early in the beta phase

(striker, scout, skirmisher...etc), it would be very temping to be able to change your skill tree,

and make use of the otherwise surplus mech XPs for a different playstyle.

They had a map of a real skill tree once then we got the one now as a place holder for four years. Guess it's time for a new place holder with skills that are useless like arm movement for mechs that don't have arms.

I just predict another pgi-it-works-tree. Half planed out and half as useful.

The reason they are re-doing is is so that they are not so much place-holders anymore. I guess another half-*** post as usual

this game is a little bit far into development to be as full of place holders as it currently is.

All I know is it's gonna keep the three mech rule, since they have mastery pack and mess up their little sales model.
