As of now... Factions (Houses/Merc Corps) are not implimented in the game yet... once the Community Warfare element gets intro'd then the options to join those factions will show up...

The faction select for the MWO forum is currently broken.
There are no factions in-game, so you're not actually missing anything.
Housekurita.org is not affiliated with MWO and is not the 'actual' game faction. It is a fan site with it's own forum and contains several associated organized units. If you visit housekurita.org they weill be happy to help you out in joining one of their existing units

The "Faction" you are refering to is an already established team...goto the recruiting thread in the forums.
For those of you that would like to know. The teams using these names are well established groups of players some of them formed 20 or more years ago and all of them are activly recruiting.I would suggest dropping with them and chatting on there coms to see if they are the right fit for you. My team the Head Hunters of Davion is welcoming new team mates every day.

Oh, so this is the reason why we can't join factions yet.

That Faction-Tag in the Forum is a leftover from Closed Beta. There we could select it in our Forum-Profile. At the moment that's broken. Just check once in a while if you can select it again.

By the same extension, houseliao.com is not affiliated with MWO and is not the game faction. It is, at best, a liao fan-club with its own forum and several associated units. The same applies for the seemingly endless number of "Clan Wolf" fanclubs.

Because it's somewhat related, I link faction-interested people to this other thread, which had videos that I found which tells the history.
