You should improve your ammo storage. Placing all of it in one torso means that an explosion while not fatal effectively will leave you useless in combat. I suggest moving one ton to the CT(which will empty quickly) and one ton to the LL where you can still benefit from the LT CASE. You are increasing the chance of an ammo explosion quite a bit by locating all your ammo in one body segment.

I'll try that, thanx.

No need to get touchy. I'm just trying to be helpful.

Not touchy, so no worries. I appreciate the critique on mech configs. I really do not pay any attention to KDR, though.

Thank you for a great guide! This has been a very good guide for a new pilot like me. I like the variety of roles I can play with my three different Hunchback chassis. Laser-brawler, LMR boat, or AC/20 brawler or middle-ranged AC/5 sniper. I know, I know, some other mechs would be better in sniping, but still me gusta!

But thank you again!

I have rejiggered my 4P to run with 6ML + 3MPL as you can alpha all of these with no penalty.

You need to drop the standard 260 to a 250 and lose a smidge of armour but it performs very nicely.

I'd rather upgrade to a 270 and keep the 9ML.

Helmstif, any tips on how to use the Hunchback's arms to soak damage? I find that against skilled marksmen, even when I'm turned 90 degrees away, they can aim above the shoulder joint and still hit the side torso.

Sure would be nice to make more use of the 32 points of armor on each arm...

Haha, OK, thanks. :(

If only the Hunchback could jump. =/

Maybe when the ability to crouch is added to the game? :P

I've been playing with my 4J a bit and trying to make it a support mech besides it's Missile Boat builds. So far i have come up with this build i like the best as it has great damage output if your in a good support role. Sticking back a little and following an assault or brawler of some sort into a fight and once they engage and take the enemies attention you can close up and alpha them and then cycle your mLasers and SRMs while you work on cooling off. It's not an out right easy build to play, but with some practice it works really well if your into the support role.

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...6eb791f124bf32d

For some reason the builder only shows heat eff at 20%, but in my hanger when looking at mine it is .91 or 45%ish. So don't know if it's showing me mine after my boost i have got for the mech or not. If thats the case then it def a build you'll want to have your mech tech'd up a little.

The guys i play with tend to be in close brawlers most of the time. They like this mech hanging around with them. Just can't get caught out in the open or by yourself with it really. But that's true of a lot of mechs.

Try this one?

HBK-4SP

Went with an XL seeing as you don't really have the hunch to target in the SP. Runs quite hot, but should be ok if you want to sit back and snipe with the 2LL. Could always drop the AMS and swap out the SRM6's for 4's for another heatsink/more armour.

I am not comfortable using an XL even in the 4SP, despite having symmetrical hardpoints. With XL, you die as soon as a side torso is blown. With the STD engine, after a side torso is blown, you can continue to use that side torso to soak damage at 50% mitigation for the center torso. You can use a blown side torso to continue to soak up the equivalent of ~180 points of damage. There are many times I've been able to continue fighting with the remaining 3 lasers and SRM6 rack on my 4SP.

You're giving up that damage soaking ability in exchange for 2 large lasers instead of 2 medium lasers. Which gives you a bit more damage and more range, but worse heat efficiency and you're more fragile. The 2 large lasers are nice to poke with from long range, but you'll never out-snipe a dedicated sniper with that. I dunno if that's worth the trade-off.

I feel rather comfortable taking peeks over hills safely, by running a parabolic arc up to the hill and then turning hard and going back down the hill, it's faster than strolling up and then reversing back down. I've only rarely been hit when doing this, exposing only my head, and it's moving laterally, too.

But peeking around corners is the worst. =/ It feels like it takes too long to step out, take a look, and reverse throttle back into cover if it doesn't look good. I know there's the 3PV camera drone, but I'd rather not learn to rely on that since it won't be available in a real 12v12.

Thanks for the guide. :)

Edit: The Hunchback is a good money maker for me. Played him today the first time. What should i say. 5 battles with 5 victories. I love it! ^_^

kronologyjdd asked for a 4SP build that would allow him to use 2LL and 3ML. I gave him one. I don't own my SP anymore, I much prefer to use my 4G and run round dumping ac20 rounds into everything that comes into my crosshairs.

Maybe throw out the SRM6's and swap to a STD250, and just focus on lasering people to death? Because to use SRM6 effectively (especially without Artemis) you have to get quite close, and trying to brawl with an XL engine is super risky.

Speaking of never using XL engines, I started running this the other day.

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...01600c714c1ccaa

I call it "The Glass Boxer."
Honestly though it's more of a joke build, and I either post 500+ damage or less than 100. I've just been getting so sick of heat scaling penalties and 7MPLs gets just as hot, if not hotter, but this way I kinda feel like I'm fighting the system. Plus people stop and stare when they see the irrationality of it. What say the hunchback elders?

Having just finished the basics on the J, H and SP, and being new to the Hunchback in the first place, I thought I would chime in and reiterate what may have been mentioned a couple times in this thread.

LEARN TO TORSO-TWIST! Otherwise, it won't matter what kind of heavy-hitting weaponry you mount in your right torso, because 9 times out of 10, it's coming off first, taking whatever is in your right arm with it. Even those who aren't familiar with the Hunchback design will err to that side of center mass. I can't think of any other mech that so clearly advertises its most powerful hard point(s). May as well hang a sign on it that says, "Shoot this first!"

I'm starting to add videos. 4H is up already. Will update 4P and 4SP when I get some good clips.
