Forces are in place at tactical positions, a thrilling battle of attrition is certain to ensue, but wait! Someone's capping, magically ending an exciting match. Everybody's rushing the base. Total chaos. Mechs running into (and through...) each other inside a square red box. No one aims anymore, the result is random.

Played several matches today, where real cool battles were prevented from happening by the capping mechanism.

My lancemates and I are willing to put up with the occasional shutdown griefer if we could get real battles without the magic capping arcade mode. Like-minded players watching on his team would probably give away his hidey hole anyway, sometimes at least. I know a lot of players feel this way.

It would probably not be too hard to implement right? And no one would have to play it.

This has probably been stated before, but it can't be stressed enough.

I'm sure it's in the works, I'd also like to see a Capture the Flag mode implemented somehow. :)

I thought we already had two modes of Team Deathmatch.

Make it a poll oy.. I hate capping.. I hate it when i see my team doing it.. I hate having to go back. Why? because most of the time the brilliant mind capping isnt even any good and just dies..

Now, thats not to say ive been in good, nay, great games where capping was pivotal , epic defense etc, but they are a small minority..
say 10% of all games that involve capping.
besides im here for the visceral thrill of battle, kill or be killed. A cap win is about as exciting to me as the client freezing mid match. A waste of time.

Just put one flag in the middle of the map somewhere. That way you are guaranteed a fight and it will prevent a shut down Spider hiding in a corner from wasting everyone's time.

We will probably see TDM at some point as a given.

But honestly in a straight up TDM with no weight limits, like we have now, are all chassis equal enough or will it just be all Atlases since speed won't be as much of an issue?

Just think two teams are placed tactically, a thrilling brawl ensues and all that remains are 2 eared A1s, or any light mech who's pilot decides it's trolling time. 10 minutes of spectating a light mech just running away.

I thought they've said that solaris matches will be in at some point.

There have been numerous requests for this, and it's obvious that a large chunk of the player base wants to shoot giant robots, and move about on the maps freely without being tethered to a red square.

We do. Players don't *have* to win via cap or points, you can always play Team Deathmatch.

Negative. Bad idea. A lot of games will occur that run out the clock with a hiding light mech.

Just suck it up and defend your base when it needs it.

Hmm, so does this mean I can go run and hide somewhere for 15 minutes while you search for me? After all, you can't cap to win.

Sure you can. Though your teammates, annoyed that a player is holding them up ingame, might call out your position. I've seen it happen before.

Without a doubt this would happen every time.

And then you can report them since doing that is a reportable offense.

Negative. Bad idea, as someone has put it well.
I've gone through quite some serious issues with the evolution of this great game. Sacrificed a few very important things to mainstream appeal like knock-downs (-75% RVN-3L with proper collisions and knockdowns) and repair 'n' rearm (which was important for the feel of a being a mechwarrior)...but seriously a teamdeathmatch-based gameplay in a vehicle combat simulation is a total No-go and would ruin half of the well crafted and fragile gameplay.
