According to this thread the increased headshots may have to do with convergence speed changing in the last patch.

Just before you start calling people hackers.

well, i once was killed with a single shot from lb10x ac at about 500m range. ) through armor engine crit, that was uber suspicious. but there was no similar kills lately in that game, so i believe it was rather some bug or really unfortunate twist of fate.

most likely a bug, i've been cored before while having almost full armor on every part in an atlas
a hack that would allow someone to do hundreds of damage in a single shot would easily be detected by even the most rudimentary anti cheat.

Maybe that was the bug people talk out where you get hit in front, but registers in back? Did you have good back armor?

I have a pretty big ego, so it really makes me wonder just how insanely massive somebody's ego really has to be to automatically think 'HAX!' every time they die....

I've not seen a hacker, but I've seen a bot. Once. In over 1500 matches. Mind you, it wasn't particularly "good". Basically, you could tell it was a bot because a) it reacted very mechanically and the reticle would center up the same way every time in a very precise fashion with no wavering and, ;) it would aim at people on the other side of buildings and fire as if it had a clean shot. Needless to say, it didn't win.

It`s happened to me 3 or 4 times in teh last 2-3 months, usually on River City. Specifically the last time there was barely any actual damage (beginning of match /initial ruch) and the raven that cored me was the first contact of the game. The list read slas, ssrm2, machine gun, engine explosion, and the armor on my front CT was barely touched, rear unscratched.... one of the rare times I type ingame, and my statement was "WTF? 0.o"

Figured it was a bug since it wan`t happening every few matches but more like once every 2 weeks or so, and I haven`t experienced it in a few weeks. It could be gone now.

Report suspicious behavior, but be advised that some people are just good at getting head shots. And if you drive a catapult, it was never an aimbot, you have a huge head.

Although in all seriousness the most credible hack reports often come from team mates, not enemies. Enemies don't know what the situation is behind the cockpit. I've done things that should have gotten me accused of hacking like one time I took a random snap shot at someone in my gausskitty and ended up with a one shot kill.

Even if you are on the receiving end of a hack it's hard for anyone to assume something other than sour grapes.

One "hack" that has started to make me paranoid lately... I've heard that you can mod the .ini file to remove the forced "fog of war" darkness after 300m or so when using the new Thermal Vision.
This essentially turns it into old school thermal which lets people spot and snipe from a long ways off.

I'm not 100% sure if this is actually legit, but since I saw a post or two mention it I've noticed really suspicious behaviour.
Namely, getting sniped from over 800m away multiple times with perfect accuracy while I'm moving 100kph+... On River City Night.

I've also been hidden behind a thick layer of trees in an ECM mech, not moving or firing to give away my position, and been sniped from 1000m+ with perfect accuracy.. Then hit again as I tried to move away at full speed.

I was used to this happening with the old thermal vision. I used it myself to great affect.
But there is no way I could do these things with the new thermal vision, so it makes me suspicious.

Oh yeah we ya see a mech running a round lit up like last year's damn christmas tree.
And just wont go down.
It's a hack.
But I'm sure the forum apologists will happily explain it all away.

It is impossible to know if someone is using the radar hack... I think that one is the real problem and not so much botting or aimbots (aiming is fairly easy in this game).

There are still some serious issues with how secure MWO is. People have told PGI this and the response is always "we know, we will get around to it". Unfortunately given that people are spending money and that some are getting an 'illegal' advantage, I think it a serious error to not have addressed these issues sooner. They rely on just removing exploits form public view despite the existence of sites out there, that document said exploits and show you how to use them.

i have almost 3000 rounds under my belt since going to open beta, i have never once encountered something that can be confimed as a bot. it's pretty much always just a lucky shot, unless there was a bug at the time.

You can press R to see what components are critical. Target info module gets the info for you faster. Really usefull.

Aimbotting tends to be pretty easy to spot in first person games. Wallhacks not so much. Aimbots would be a huge problem in this game, but it has first person spectating, and I have yet to see a single case that made me suspicious of aimbotting. Wallhacks are hard to tell, because you get iff around corners.
